The Medical Support Officer / Medical Helpdesk Assistant is responsible for providing administrative and non-clinical support to patients, healthcare providers, and internal teams. This role serves as a primary point of contact for patient inquiries, appointment coordination, medical documentation support, insurance verification, and healthcare service assistance.

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellent communication skills, strong attention to detail, and a commitment to delivering exceptional patient support while maintaining compliance with healthcare regulations and privacy standards.

This is a fully remote position; however, applicants must currently reside in the United States and be legally authorized to work in the United States. Applications from individuals residing outside the United States will not be considered.

Key Responsibilities

Patient Support & Communication
  • Respond to patient inquiries via phone, email, chat, and support ticket systems
  • Assist patients with appointment scheduling, rescheduling, and cancellations
  • Provide information regarding healthcare services, procedures, and office policies
  • Escalate urgent medical concerns to appropriate clinical staff
  • Deliver professional and empathetic customer service to patients and caregivers
Administrative Support
  • Maintain accurate patient records and documentation
  • Process patient forms, referrals, authorizations, and healthcare documentation
  • Support medical records requests and document management activities
  • Assist with intake procedures and patient registration processes
  • Verify and update patient demographic and insurance information
Insurance & Billing Support
  • Verify insurance eligibility and benefits
  • Assist patients with billing inquiries and payment-related questions
  • Coordinate with insurance providers regarding claim status and coverage verification
  • Support revenue cycle and patient account processes as needed
Compliance & Quality Assurance
  • Ensure compliance with HIPAA and organizational privacy standards
  • Maintain confidentiality of protected health information (PHI)
  • Follow established healthcare policies, procedures, and service standards
  • Document interactions accurately and timely
Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Associate degree in Healthcare Administration, Medical Office Administration, or related field preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in healthcare support, medical administration, patient services, customer service, or helpdesk environments
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent customer service and interpersonal abilities
  • Strong organizational and multitasking skills
  • Attention to detail and accuracy
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with electronic health record systems such as Epic Systems, Cerner, or Athenahealth
  • Familiarity with healthcare scheduling and patient management systems
  • Knowledge of HIPAA regulations and healthcare privacy requirements
  • Experience with medical terminology and healthcare workflows
  • Bilingual communication skills preferred
  • Healthcare customer service or patient support experience
Compensation

Hourly Rate: $35.00 - $45.00 per hour
