Open Position: Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH)

Location: Washington, DC and/or Laurel, Maryland (onsite; primary assignment to be confirmed)

Schedule: Full-time, Monday–Friday, 8:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m.

Employment Type: Full-time W2 Employee

Client: U.S. Secret Service (USSS), through the Agile Facilities Solutions contractor team

Salary Range: $140,000–$160,000 annually

Position Overview

Join the Agile Facilities Solutions (AFS) contractor team supporting the U.S. Secret Service (USSS) occupational health, safety and environmental programs. The CIH manages the Industrial Hygiene program, evaluates workplace exposures and develops practical recommendations to support compliance with applicable standards and regulations. This is a contractor position, not Federal Government employment.

The CIH develops, implements and manages the Industrial Hygiene program and advises managers, technical personnel, Government entities and contractors on occupational health and IH. Clear analysis, technical writing and workforce training support compliance and practical exposure-risk management.

Key Responsibilities

Safety & Industrial Hygiene Program Support

Maintain a documented Respiratory Protection program to manage harmful respiratory exposures. Conduct fit testing and equipment certification, evaluate respiratory hazards, and coordinate the medical-surveillance component with authorized medical personnel. Provide respiratory-protection training and awareness and document the program's activities and findings.

Maintain the heat- and cold-stress program, including temperature and humidity monitoring, employee notifications, training, acclimation and rest-break guidance. Maintain a documented Radiation Safety program addressing non-ionizing sources, such as RF emitters in drones and lasers used in laboratories or virtual training, and ionizing sources such as x-ray equipment. Provide radiation training and awareness, support personnel monitoring, and manage program requirements for equipment, maintenance and labeling.

Administrative & Technical Writing Functions

Develop, implement and manage the Industrial Hygiene (IH) program and its component programs to support compliance with applicable safety and IH standards, rules, regulations and guidelines. Provide occupational health and IH consultation to managers, technical personnel, other Government entities and contractors. Analyze program and exposure information, prepare technical analysis reports, develop budget and procurement justifications, and present recommendations to senior management.

Field & Technical Industrial Hygiene Support

Review and analyze indoor air quality risks at all locations, investigating specific situations raised by employee concerns or landlord testing and documenting the findings. Evaluate lead-exposure risks at firing ranges and associated areas through air sampling and surface testing. Interpret findings for stakeholders, provide lead-awareness education and serve as an advisor on range-cleaning practices.

Maintain a documented Hearing Conservation program with the Medical team to manage high-noise exposure risks. Conduct noise testing, review hearing protection, and provide training and awareness. Review and analyze risks associated with industrial ventilation systems at ranges, laboratory hoods, paint booths, biosafety cabinets and weapons-maintenance areas. Perform smoke testing, static-pressure testing and air-velocity testing to evaluate these systems and communicate the results.

Regulatory & Compliance Support

Apply applicable safety and IH standards, rules, regulations and guidelines across all program components. Maintain documented programs, analyze exposure risks and communicate recommendations to senior management; coordinate medical-surveillance matters with authorized medical personnel.

Required Qualifications

A Bachelor of Science (BS) degree and at least eight years of experience in occupational safety and environmental fields are both required. Experience does not substitute for the degree. Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) certification is required.

The work calls for the ability to interpret applicable IH standards, analyze exposure data, write technical reports, communicate recommendations and deliver workforce training. U.S. citizenship and the pre-start Government suitability requirements below apply.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience integrating several IH programs, explaining technical findings to nontechnical audiences, and coordinating exposure controls with facilities and medical teams is desirable. These skills are preferences, not additional degree, certification or experience minimums.
