Pharmacy Clinical Specialist - Emergency Medicine

POSITION SUMMARY:This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated emergency medicine-trained pharmacist to join Boston Medical Center, a large academic medical center, as a Clinical Specialist on a team of critical care and emergency medicine pharmacists. The Clinical Specialist will have a focused practice site in our Emergency Department covering a variety of shifts. BMC is one of the busiest Emergency Department in New England ( with more than 130,000 annual visits) and is in the top 15 busiest in the country. Pharmacy services at Boston Medical Center are indispensable and highly integrated at the front-line level for patient care and into the broader leadership level of the organization. Residency and student training will be a central component of this position. Boston Medical Center has both PGY1 residents and PGY2 programs in Critical Care, Emergency Medicine, Infectious Diseases, Oncology, Administration, and Ambulatory Care. The Clinical Specialist will be expected to lead and participate in novel quality improvement projects that improve the care of critically ill patients and advance pharmacy practice. Finally, there will be opportunities for professional growth and advancement as the Pharmacy Department at Boston Medical Center seeks to further advance practice by striving to be leaders in quality improvement and patient safety.Under the direction of the Clinical Manager ensures optimum patient outcomes related to medication use by preventing or resolving drug-related issues and optimizing the drug therapy of patients. Provides drug information to patients and families, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professional. Integrally involved in education of pharmacists, residents and students. Serves as a resource and drug expert in one of the seven specialty areas. Strives to increase knowledge through research and writing activities. The Clinical Specialist may also be involved, as necessary, in coordinating the acquisition, distribution and control of drug therapy for patients under the care of the pharmacist.Position: Clinical Pharmacy SpecialistDepartment: Inpatient PharmacySchedule: Full TimeJOB REQUIREMENTSEDUCATION:Work requires at a minimum a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and at least five years of pertinent work experience or a Bachelor's Degree in Pharmacy and post-graduate training, with at least three years of pertinent work experience, or a Doctorate Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college of pharmacy with post-graduate training or at least two years of pertinent work experience.CERTIFICATIONS, LICENSURES, & REGISTRATIONS:Work requires licensure to practice pharmacy in the state of Massachusetts by the hire date.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES:Work requires substantial interpersonal skills towards our customers (particularly patients, physicians and nurses) and fellow employees of the hospital.Compensation Range:$112,000.00- $162,500.00This range offers an estimate based on the minimum job qualifications.
