Provide and supervise direct Veteran patient care using all elements of the nursing process. Provide gender-specific direct Veteran care and care coordination for Veterans assigned to Primary Care. Manage assigned patient panels and use registries to support appropriate evaluation and access. Provide health promotion, health education, and wellness coaching. Support disease prevention and chronic care management. Collaborate in the development, implementation, evaluation, and revision of policies, procedures, and guidelines. Demonstrate leadership and performance broad enough to improve care within the Primary Care Department and facility. Provide formal or informal constructive feedback to peers for improvement. Support colleagues and other nurses through primary care knowledge sharing to provide safe, quality nursing care. Foster a safe and supportive environment for the professional development of health care professionals. Evaluate outpatient outcomes of evidence-based decisions and practice changes for individuals, groups, and populations. Maintain responsibility for documented PACT outcomes at the program or service level. Support optimal care across outpatient PACT and Specialty Care nursing areas. Basic Qualifications: Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy. Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English. Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency. Nursing education must have been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education at the time the program was completed, unless otherwise covered by VA policy. Individuals attending a master's-level bridge program in nursing may qualify under VA policy if they have completed coursework equivalent to a bachelor's-level nursing degree and become registered as a nurse with a state licensing board. Graduates of foreign schools of professional nursing may qualify with current, full, active, and unrestricted registration; foreign nursing education above associate degree or entry-level nursing requires formal degree equivalency validation accepted by VA. Must have current, full, active, and unrestricted registration as a graduate professional nurse in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia. Graduate Nurse Technician candidates may be appointed temporarily while actively pursuing licensure if they otherwise meet education requirements, subject to VA policy. Must be subject to a background/security investigation. Must pass a pre-employment physical examination. Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to testing requirements for this testing designated position. Nurse I Level III: ADN or diploma in nursing plus two years of professional nursing experience with one year equivalent to Nurse I Level II; or BSN plus one year of professional nursing experience equivalent to Nurse I Level II; or MSN with no additional professional nursing experience; or related master's degree with BSN and no additional professional nursing experience. Grade and salary are determined by education, scope, length, and quality of nursing practice experience. Education and Licensure Requirements: Must meet professional nursing education requirements under the VA Nurse qualification standard. Current, full, active, and unrestricted RN registration is required unless appointed under the Graduate Nurse Technician exception. Transcripts must be submitted if using education to qualify or support grade determination. Education must be from an institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be supported by formal degree equivalency validation when required by VA policy. Physical Requirements: Physical requirements are based on VA Handbook 5019.
