If you are passionate about serving with purpose and authenticity while fostering trust, unity, and growth, we welcome you to join us on this meaningful journey.About the Role: The Tribal Police Officer patrols the community, responds to complaints, enforces laws, makes arrests, serves warrants and subpoenas, and testifies in court, all while ensuring the safety and wellbeing of the Tribal community. This role may include additional duties as assigned to support departmental and program goals.Key Responsibilities:Enforces Tribal, Federal, and State laws, including arrests and traffic controlPatrols assigned areas to maintain safety and prevent crimeResponds to calls, complaints, and emergency situationsConducts investigations, gathers evidence, and works with investigatorsServes warrants and civil processPrepares accurate, timely reportsTestifies in Tribal, State, and Federal courtWorks independently with found judgment under pressurePerforms additional duties as assignedCore Qualifications:High School Diploma or equivalent required.Two (2) years of employment experience as a certified police officer required.Must possess an Alabama Peace Officer Commission certification for law enforcement.Must obtain BIA Special Law Enforcement Commission (S.L.E.C.) within twelve (12) months of date of hire.Must obtain other related commissions as identified and required after official date of hire in this position.Must be in good physical condition with the ability to sit, stand, walk, kneel, crouch, stoop, squat, and twist for an extended period of time as well as climb, lift, hold, and move objects weighing a minimum of fifty (50) pounds.Must maintain the ability to testify in Tribal, Federal, and State Court (no Giglio restrictions permitted).Must meet approved age, mental, physical, and medical requirements set forth by the Alabama Police Officers Standards and Training Commission and the Bureau of Indian Affairs.Ability to work odd and irregular hours, as needed.Must successfully pass the required criminal and character background check.Must possess a valid state driver's license and insurable driving record according to Tribal insurance guidelines.Ability to travel and participate in required training, leadership development, and other events.Ability to perform all duties and responsibilities of this position adequately and successfully.Essential Competencies:Maintains confidentiality and professionalismStrong communication and interpersonal skillsBuilds effective relationships with law enforcement agenciesPerforms well under pressure with sound judgmentDemonstrates accountability, maturity, and integrityCapable of making arrests and using department-issued equipmentFollows policies and completes assignments effectivelyTotal Rewards Package: We offer a comprehensive and competitive benefits program including:Medical, dental, vision, life insurance and voluntary benefitsPaid time off and paid holidaysEmployee Assistance Program (EAP)401(k) with employer matchPerformance bonuses and COLA increasesPreference will be given in accordance with Title 33 (Tribal Employment Rights) of the Tribal Code/DFWP.INDIAN PREFERENCE, SPOUSAL PREFERENCE, OR FIRST GENERATION:In the event more than one applicant meets the requirements, as stated in a job description, preference shall be given in the following order: (1) Tribal Member (2) First Generation Descendant of a Tribal Member (3) Spouse of Tribal Member (4) Indian (5) Non-IndianIn the event that a position of employment is funded in whole or in part my any federal grant and/or contract or other public funding, preference shall be given in the following order: (1) Indian (2) Non-IndianIn order to receive preference, the appropriate documentation must be submitted.
