School Age Assistant Teacher

Description Job Title: School Age Assistant Teacher Status: Part-Time/Non-Exempt Department: Childcare Reports to: SAGE Director ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assist with daily activities (snack preparation, organized physical activities, arts & crafts projects, etc.).
- Promotes feelings of mutual respect, acceptance, and appreciation among youth and adults.
- Creates a safe environment that helps all youth feel welcome and respected.
- Assist in maintenance of a clean facility.
- Employs positive behavior guidance strategies that provide youth with increased self-awareness and self-control.
- Attend mandatory meetings and training.
- Arrive at work on time and clock in properly.
- Maintain a consistent attendance record.
- Notify the Head Teacher and Director if it is necessary to be absent from scheduled hours.
- Actively participate in all activities.
- Interacts with youth in a positive, warm and nurturing manner.
- Understands and maintains personal boundaries with youth (e.g., physical space, time, etc.).
- Develops and maintains open, friendly, cooperative, and respectful relationships with families and other partners.
- Encourages an open exchange of ideas.
- Uses effective listening and verbal skills, including positive body language and tone of voice.
- All other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must have experience working with children ages 5-10.
- Must meet all State of Connecticut licensing requirements (negative TB test, good health report, First Aid / CPR certification).
- Must have the ability and desire to work with children.
