OpenAIs mission is to ensure that general-purpose artificial intelligence benefits all of humanity. The Consumer Verticals team explores how ChatGPT can become meaningfully more useful in important areas of peoples lives including health finance and emerging agentic experiences.

We work across research engineering product design and domain experts to turn increasingly capable models into intuitive trustworthy consumer products. Our work combines the reach of ChatGPT with the depth required to serve distinct user needs responsibly.

About the Role

In this role youll lead the end-to-end design of new consumer experiences across emerging verticals. Youll explore how ChatGPT should adapt to different contexts translate complex model capabilities into clear product interactions and establish patterns that can scale across multiple domains.

This is a highly generative zero-to-one role. Youll move between broad product vision and detailed interaction design creating prototypes that help teams learn quickly and polished experiences that are ready to ship. Youll also navigate domains where trust accuracy safety and user agency are essential.

This role is based in our San Francisco HQ. We offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role you will:

• Shape the product and design direction for purpose-built consumer experiences across areas such as health finance and general consumer agents.

• Design and ship high-quality products from early concepts and prototypes through detailed interaction design and final visual execution.

• Define how ChatGPT should behave in different domains while preserving a coherent distinctly OpenAI experience.

• Explore new interaction models for AI systems that can understand context support complex decisions and take action on a users behalf.

• Partner closely with research engineering product management safety and domain experts to turn technical capabilities into useful and responsible products.

• Conduct and apply user research to understand the distinct needs expectations and risks within each vertical.

• Balance specialized domain requirements with reusable patterns that can strengthen ChatGPT and accelerate future product development.

• Contribute to OpenAIs broader design culture and raise the bar for consumer product craft.

• Have substantial experience designing and shipping high-quality consumer software at scale.

• Bring exceptional UX UI and interaction design skills with a high bar for craft in every stage of the work.

• Are a highly generative product thinker who can explore broadly develop a strong point of view and turn ambiguity into clear product direction.

• Have led zero-to-one initiatives or introduced new product categories behaviors or interaction models.

• Can simplify complex systems without hiding the details users need to make informed decisions.

• Have strong instincts for trust safety transparency and user controlparticularly in consequential or sensitive experiences.

• Can move fluently between domain-specific problems and broader systems or platform thinking.

• Communicate through compelling narratives and prototypes that build alignment across design research product and engineering.

• Are excited to define how AI-first consumer products should look feel and behave as models become more capable and agentic.
