Plant Operations Manager

POSITION SUMMARY Within a business unit, the Recycling Center Operations Manager is responsible for managing the recycling and other post‑collections activities in a Recycling Center. The position manages a team of Operations Supervisors, Dispatchers, Operations Clerks, Drivers, Sorters, Helpers and other equipment operators. The Operations Manager works with the General Manager and other managers to execute a local strategy for the marketing of commodities, complements the Area’s overall strategic operating plan, and implements tactical initiatives to drive functional excellence and budget achievement. The Operations Manager oversees all recycling operations, including safety and accident prevention programs, compliance with standards, recycling contract maintenance, permit compliance, change management initiatives, and the growth and durability of the business unit. The role includes staff management, performance management, talent development, and ensuring a safe and productive work environment. The Operations Manager also approves expenses, manages the operations budget, and develops a best‑in‑class team and workplace culture. PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES Provide leadership for the recycling and post‑collections operations of a Materials Recycling Facility by providing management oversight to all operations staff. Manage staff, including hiring, training, coaching, performance management, developing supervisory goals and objectives, and resolving safety issues and claims. Implement and execute plans that complement the business unit’s strategic and operating plan, championing tactical initiatives to maximize customer experience, growth, durability, and profitability. Drive functional plans within the operations group to achieve or exceed the Business Unit’s budget and strategic goals. Lead all matters related to recycling and post‑collections operations to ensure safety, compliance, and P&L objectives. Monitor and maintain recycling contract and permit compliance with inbound material and production of commodities; implement state‑of‑the‑art technology to reduce residue from inbound recycling streams. Coordinate commodity production with inbound volume and material type; adjust resources to market and seasonal conditions. Work with the General Manager to develop sales strategies to market commodities locally or nationally; monitor regulations and market conditions to develop new recycling opportunities. Oversee effective safety and accident prevention programs, ensuring all reasonable actions to prevent accidents and injuries. Ensure compliance with environmental, operating, regulatory, safety, accounting and ethics standards. Approve expenses and manage the operations budget, including approval of purchase orders and vendor pricing. Develop a best‑in‑class team culture, manage performance and talent development, and share best‑practice. Build and maintain strong relations with relevant government, community and environmental groups. QUALIFICATIONS Demonstrated ability to manage multiple sites. Experience in labor relations. Strong business acumen, strategic thinking and the ability to execute against formulated strategy. Experience leading change initiatives. Ability to direct large staff. Process‑oriented and results‑oriented with a commitment to organizational success. Excellent problem‑solving, analytical, critical‑thinking and decision‑making skills. Ability to optimize near‑term results for long‑term sustainable success. Collaborative, team‑builder, and ethical behavior promoter. Strong leadership skills and proven judgment of talent, with emphasis on hiring and developing high‑performance teams. Previous employment by a Fortune500 company. MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS High School Diploma or GED. Minimum of 2years of supervisory or management experience, or participation in Republic Services’ management trainee program. PAY RANGES AND BENEFITS Pay Range: The pay range for this position is $104,400.00 to $143,550.00* which reflects the minimum wage in multiple jurisdictions. The actual range will depend on the locality in which you are hired. Bonus Plan Details (if applicable) Annual Incentive Plan Target, 20% Annual Rewarding Compensation.
