The Investigator is responsible for conducting prompt, thorough, and impartial investigations into complaints of discrimination, harassment, and other misconduct arising under a range of civil rights laws and institutional policies, including but not limited to Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act. This role involves gathering and analyzing evidence; interviewing complainants, respondents, and witnesses; and producing comprehensive, well-reasoned investigative reports. The Investigator ensures compliance with relevant federal and state regulations and helps educational institutions and employers uphold fair, equitable, and legally sound resolution processes. Responsibilities Develop investigation plans that promote timely, thorough, impartial, and legally sound investigations, tailored to each client’s policies, procedures, and unique needs. Conduct prompt, unbiased investigations into allegations arising under Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, Section 504, and other applicable civil rights laws and institutional or organizational policies. Gather and evaluate relevant evidence – including documentation, digital records, physical evidence, and other materials – ensuring all methods comply with legal and ethical standards. Conduct comprehensive, trauma-informed, and culturally competent interviews with complainants, respondents, witnesses, and other relevant parties. Analyze complex fact patterns, synthesize evidence, and prepare clear, well-organized investigative reports that accurately reflect findings and support fair, evidence-based resolutions. Ensure investigative processes comply with all applicable federal and state laws and reflect best practices in civil rights investigations across educational and workplace settings. Collaborate with clients’ Title IX Coordinators, Human Resources, Equal Opportunity, Legal Counsel, and other relevant stakeholders to support case resolution and the implementation of supportive or remedial measures. Contribute to the design and delivery of client trainings on civil rights compliance, investigations, and related topics, adapting content to specific regulatory and institutional contexts. Maintain accurate, detailed, and confidential case records to support compliance reporting, case audits, and long-term data management integrity. Stay abreast of legal developments and guidance affecting civil rights compliance in education and employment, incorporating updates into practice and client advisement. Support broader TNG initiatives, including policy development, strategic advising, content creation, and internal training as needed. Perform other duties as assigned in support of TNG’s mission and client service model. Requirements Required Education, Skills & Experience Minimum of 3 years of professional experience in working with civil rights cases, including conducting investigations, coordinating responses, and/or serving as a decision-maker or appeal officer for cases involving Title IX, Title VII, Title VI, ADA, and/or Section 504 allegations within educational institutions (K–12 and/or higher education) or employment settings. Graduate degree in education, law, public policy, human resources, social work, or a related field. Deep knowledge of federal civil rights laws and investigatory procedures, including Title IX regulations and grievance processes, with working knowledge of Title VII, Title VI, the ADA, and Section 504. Demonstrated ability to conduct prompt, thorough, and trauma-informed interviews and investigations involving sensitive subject matter, including sexual misconduct and discriminatory harassment. Exceptional written communication skills, including the ability to draft comprehensive investigative reports, executive summaries, and supporting documentation across various formats. Proven ability to present material effectively and facilitate engaging trainings for institutional stakeholders and leadership. Strong client service orientation with the capacity to build and sustain collaborative client relationships. Able to work independently and manage multiple complex investigations simultaneously, while meeting deadlines and maintaining accuracy. Highly organized and detail-oriented, with sound judgment and critical thinking skills. Culturally competent and committed to principles of equity, inclusion, and trauma-informed practice. Comfortable with ambiguity and able to adapt quickly to new information or changing circumstances. Maintains professionalism, discretion, and confidentiality in all aspects of investigative and consulting work. Proficiency in a variety of digital tools, including Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, secure file-sharing platforms, case management systems, and virtual meeting technologies (e.g., Zoom, Teams). This is a fully remote position. The role requires consistent access to a secure, high-speed internet connection and the ability to use virtual collaboration tools (e.g., Zoom, Microsoft Teams, cloud-based file sharing, and case management platforms). Standard duties involve extended periods of computer use and virtual meetings, with frequent document review, report writing, and client interaction via video or phone. While travel is not typically required for this position, team members may be invited to attend regional training events or national conferences on a voluntary basis. In exceedingly rare circumstances, a client may require onsite work, which could necessitate limited travel. The role may occasionally require work during evenings or weekends to meet client deadlines or accommodate time-sensitive matters. The position demands a high level of focus, discretion, and self-motivation, as well as comfort working both independently and as part of a virtual team. Physical Demands While performing the duties of this job, the employee will spend a significant amount of time sitting at a desk, working on computers. Prolonged use of the computer and keyboard is expected. Walking and standing are also common for this role, especially for collaborating with colleagues, training, or coordinating program events.The employee must occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 10 pounds. The annual salary range for the Title IX Investigator position is $75,000-$85,000; commensurate with experience.
