Job Description and Duties

Under the general direction of the Director and Assistant Director, Bureau of Investigation, the Senior Special Agent In-Charge (SSAC) is responsible for the overall operation of the Los Angeles Interagency Metropolitan Police Apprehension Crime Task Force (L.A. IMPACT). L.A. IMPACT is a Joint Powers Authority (JPA) under California Government Code Section 6500 (See attached Joint Powers Agreement signed June 04, 2012) with 45 members.

Will consider Temporary Authorization Utilization (TAU) appointments – TAU appointments may be made regardless of eligibility; however, applicants must still meet the minimum qualifications of the classification in order to be appointed. Candidates who meet the minimum qualifications but do not currently have eligibility on an employment certification list may apply as a TAU.

TAU appointments are limited to a duration of 9 months within a 12 consecutive month period. In order to become permanent in the position, individuals must take and pass the examination for the classification and be eligible on a certification list prior to the TAU expiring. Individuals will not be required to reapply or re-compete in order to be appointed permanently to the position.

Special Requirements

Candidates must have a current California POST Basic which meets Penal code 8310.1, 830.2, 830.3 or Specialized Certificate in order to be considered.

Please note that all new to state employees will be given the minimum salary of the classification. For current state employees and/or those with reinstatement rights, your salary will be determined in accordance with the applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Education Incentive
The Senior Special Agent-in-Charge classification is eligible for Pay Differential 47. The selected candidate may be entitled to the pay differential, as long as they meet the following eligibility criteria: Those who possess POST Management Certificate shall be eligible to receive an additional 5% of base pay per month upon satisfactory performance and approval of the Department of Justice.

Those who possess a POST Command College or FBI Academy Certificate shall be eligible to receive an additional 6% of base pay per month upon satisfactory performance and approval of the Department.

Surveillance Pay
The selected candidate may be entitled to surveillance pay.

Desirable Qualifications

In addition to evaluating each candidate's relative ability, as demonstrated by quality and breadth of experience, the following factors will provide the basis for competitively evaluating each candidate:

• Extensive law enforcement management and leadership experience in a variety of assignments which reflect diverse investigative skills, human resource assets, with established law enforcement contacts at the local, state and federal levels in the law enforcement community throughout the state. 
• Willingness to work excessive duty hours to accomplish the mission of the LA IMPACT and the mission for the Office of the Attorney General. 
• Must have excellent written and oral communication skills; strong analytical skills; good research skills; effective time-management and organizational skills. 
• Must have the ability to maintain professional and courteous working relationships with all levels of staff; ability to foster positive working relationships with internal/external contacts; ability to successfully lead and supervise a group of individuals; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; possess integrity and the ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information; strong proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook; and good attendance. 
• Background in training, instructor development and an understanding of different adult learning concepts. 
• Must have the ability to work both independently and as a team member; carry out prescribed tasks with minimal supervision; be a self-starter, flexible, and have a positive attitude; innovative leadership with technology based ideas to move the Program into the future which will include concepts from the 21st Century Policing Model.
