HEALTH SUPPORT SPECIALIST - 64046047

Responsibilities The incumbent is part of a global public health organization and is expected to support the Florida Department of Health in Pasco County in its mission to protect, promote and improve the health of all people in Florida through integrated state, county and community efforts and its vision to be the Healthiest State in the Nation. The incumbent is responsible for incorporating the agency values of Innovation, Collaboration, Accountability, Responsiveness and Excellence into all aspects of their work. This technical position requires an expert understanding of the Federal WIC & Nutrition Program and the use of the WIC FL WiSE system with minimal supervision. The incumbent must maintain current knowledge of Federal WIC program regulations, including WIC memos, the WIC data system guide and the DOH manual 150-24. After completing the Nutrition Education Series of the Florida Nutrition Training Guide Modules, the incumbent will provide quality nutrition care to WIC participants in compliance with Federal Regulations. Key duties include obtaining accurate height and weight measurements; performing hematocrit/hemoglobin testing and recording results electronically; cleaning equipment and maintaining sanitary conditions; following universal precautions and safety guidelines; completing lab/anthro screens in the electronic data system; managing medical supplies inventories; greeting prospective WIC participants; answering telephones; scheduling appointments; making referrals to health and social services; collecting participant income and demographic information for eligibility determination; advising participants of their rights and obligations; entering required data and obtaining signatures; reviewing “How WIC Works”; disbursing WIC EBT and VOC/ID cards; instructing clients on card use; recording entry logs; notifying clinic supervisors of discrepancies; informing participants of certification expirations; managing card security and separation; loading benefits into WIC EBT accounts; attending in‑service trainings on the Nutrition Education Kit; providing interactive nutrition education; maintaining documentation of goal setting; promoting breastfeeding education; supporting QI/QA activities; assisting with the Call Center; offering National Voter Registration Act Preference Form/App‑lication processing; receiving infants and child immunization records; collecting end‑of‑day/month reports; assisting with inventory of WIC formula, equipment and resources; training staff; attending meetings and trainings; traveling to other clinic sites; participating in outreach; referring vendor queries; completing client contact reports; recording and submitting time sheets, EARS, and travel; reading, understanding, and implementing assigned directives; and performing other related duties as assigned. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge and experience utilizing software programs such as Excel, PowerPoint, and Word. Knowledge of arithmetic and procedures for receiving and disbursing WIC EBT cards. Ability to interact with the public in a tactful and courteous manner, maintain records, organize and coordinate work assignments, communicate effectively, and maintain good rapport. Ability to handle multiple responsibilities and new tasks simultaneously. Ability to adapt and resolve challenges. Qualifications Minimum Currently employed with the Florida Department of Health. High School Diploma or GED equivalent. Valid Florida Driver's License. Preferred Four months experience working in the Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program. Four months or more experience obtaining accurate heights and weights. Four months experience taking finger‑stick blood tests such as hemoglobin or blood sugar.
