Join us and our 18,000 colleagues now and together we will make the world a brighter place.The Maintenance Technician is responsible for the maintenance and reliability of all mechanical systems at Covestro's South Deerfield facility. This role supports shift mechanics with day-to-day maintenance needs and collaborates with other departments on projects. Daily activities include evaluating, diagnosing, troubleshooting, and repairing mechanical systems within the extrusion process, including process equipment, rotating equipment, material handling equipment, and central utilities.Major Tasks and ResponsibilitiesCollaboration & CommunicationWork with engineering and other departments to plan and support mechanical installations and repairsWork with vendors and contractors for material procurement and troubleshootingCommunicate openly across teams, shifts, and departments to support repairs and projectsMaintenance & RepairTroubleshoot, maintain, and repair all mechanical and process equipment within areas of responsibility, including process cooling systems, compressors, extruder cooling systems, pumps, heat exchangers, and gearboxesDiagnose complex equipment failures and restore operation as quickly as possible to minimize downtime and production losses, while balancing multiple shifting prioritiesPerform component-level repairs and replacements including pumps, heat exchangers, gearboxes, blade changes, etc.Diagnose and resolve heating and cooling system problemsInterpret data from test equipment, documentation, and operational input to expedite repairsPerform skilled mechanical work including fabrication, assembly, welding, alignment, rigging, burning, cutting, and pipefitting; occasionally support other trades as neededSupport simple standalone projects or contribute to larger projects as part of a team under the direction of higher-level mechanicsPerform some process-level troubleshooting in addition to mechanical repairsClean production dies and other toolingPreventive Maintenance & DocumentationConduct and complete all scheduled PMs, testing, and calibration of facility mechanical and process equipmentCreate and manage Work Orders in SAP MtS; apply time to projects accuratelyAssist in developing and updating PM procedures to ensure accuracy, including correct lubricants, greases, and specificationsSafetyModel strong safety awareness and knowledge of plant processes and procedures for other Maintenance TechniciansRespond promptly to identify and correct unsafe conditions; maintain equipment to ensure safe operationsPerform Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) procedures for all machinery and equipment repairs, including new installationsMaintain good housekeeping practices and actively participate in department safety and housekeeping activitiesOrganization & FlexibilityAssist with organization of spare parts and toolingWillingness to work overtime, weekends, shutdowns, and alternate shifts as neededWillingness to learn other areas of the department and provide coverage for other positionsBasic QualificationsHigh school diploma2+ years of experience at the Covestro South Deerfield facility with previous industrial maintenance experience; OR 5+ years of commercial or industrial mechanical experience (industrial preferred)Valid drivers licensePreferred QualificationsTrade School degree with a concentration in mechanics or maintenanceNCCER Millwright and/or NCCER Pipefitter CertificationKnowledge and SkillsWorking knowledge of computers and proficiency with standard software applicationsCertified forklift operator or ability to obtain certificationPrior lead role experience or a desire to obtain an electrical license is a plus.The starting pay for this role is $36.63/hour.This is a full-time role that includes competitive pay, annual bonus potential, generous paid time off, 401K with company match, retirement contribution, tuition reimbursement, parental leave and medical, dental and vision coverage (no waiting period).Equal Employment Opportunity: Hiring and advancement are based on job-related requirements and on an individual's qualifications to perform a job.
