Certified Medical Assistant

Summary of Position Under the supervision of the Director of Clinical Services (DOCS) and the assigned provider, the Certified/Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA) helps to facilitate patient care in the clinic environment. The CMA/RMA is an essential part of the care team from the onset of the visit until its completion. The CMA/RMA may be involved in both the clinical and administrative areas, serves as one of the primary guides for the patient through the appointment process, captures and documents clinical and demographic information, and assists providers with procedures while communicating with patients in various settings. Minimum Qualifications Ability to communicate in English accurately and concisely both verbally and in writing, interact professionally and patient‑centered, work cooperatively with internal staff to deliver safe, effective, quality care, plan and prioritize assigned tasks with a high level of accuracy, and work well under time constraints while maintaining accurate records. New Graduate or less than one‑year experience. Knowledge of medical office protocols and procedures. Knowledge of medical terminology. Familiarity with basic computer operations. Bilingual (preferred). Education High school diploma or GED and graduation from an accredited Medical Assistant Program. Certification(s) / Licensure Medical Assistant Certification within ninety days of hire; CPR and BLS required. Physical Requirements Continuous walking, standing and moving about. Frequently bends, kneels and crouches. Frequently lifts, pushes or otherwise moves and positions patients or other objects, exerting up to 50 lbs. Repetitive movement of hands and fingers – typing and/or writing. The ability to talk, hear and smell. Possible exposure to hazardous fumes, airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, bodily fluids, etc. Key Responsibilities Fulfill patient care responsibilities to all patient populations, including pediatrics as assigned. Check schedules and organize patient flow to ensure visits start in a timely manner; greet and escort patients to exam rooms; prepare for the provider‑patient encounter by obtaining a comprehensive health history and vital signs; perform required screenings per established guidelines. Maintain accurate documentation in the patient’s electronic health record based on established procedures. Assist in telephone follow‑up with patients as directed by the provider or DOCS. Assist with patient health education and follow‑up on established patient plans of care. Complete in a timely manner, with adequate supervision, the assigned clinic maintenance tasks: setting up instrumentation, running tests and controls, cleaning exam/procedure rooms, and documenting completed tasks. Fulfill clerical responsibilities: obtain lab/X‑ray reports, hospital notes, referral information; complete requisitions; verify insurance coverage and patient demographics. Assist the provider with various procedures and accurately document results. Maintain supplies by inventorying stock, placing orders, and verifying receipt. Keep equipment operating: troubleshoot breakdowns, maintain supplies, perform preventive maintenance, and call for repairs. Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following and enforcing policies and procedures while providing compassionate care. Maintain patient confidentiality and protect operations by keeping protected health information confidential and secure. Participate in mandatory in‑services and drills, attend staff meetings and other trainings, including regular professional development training. Adhere strictly to infection control guidelines.
