Registered Nurse - Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry

Job Summary

Join a dedicated nursing team in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) / Telemetry setting located in Hilo, Hawaii. This specialized 15-bed unit is comprised of 3 Step-down ICU beds and 12 Telemetry beds, providing comprehensive care to a diverse patient population requiring continuous monitoring and close observation in an acute care environment.

As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality primary nursing care, with a strong focus on advanced telemetry monitoring and interpretation. You will manage patient assignments with ratios of 1:4 for Progressive Care patients and 1:3 for Step-down ICU patients, ensuring patient safety and optimal outcomes through skilled assessment, intervention, and collaboration.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide comprehensive primary nursing care to patients within the Progressive Care and Step-down ICU settings.
• Perform continuous telemetry monitoring, including accurate interpretation and documentation of cardiac rhythms.
• Conduct fingerstick blood sugar assessments and implement appropriate interventions based on results.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized patient care plans.
• Float to other acute care units as needed, which may include Medical, Surgical/Pediatrics, Intensive Care Unit (ICU), and Emergency Room (ER).

Required Qualifications

• Minimum of one (1) year of acute care hospital experience within the last year.

Preferred Qualifications

• Prior experience in a Progressive Care Unit (PCU) or Telemetry unit.
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) certification.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) certification.
• National Institutes of Health Stroke Scale (NIHSS) certification.

Skills & Competencies

• Proficiency in primary nursing care, including patient assessment, medication administration, and care plan development.
• Expertise in telemetry monitoring, rhythm interpretation, and cardiac assessment.
• Competency in blood glucose monitoring and management protocols.
• Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems, specifically Meditech charting.
• Proficient in medication administration using automated dispensing systems such as Pyxis.
• Familiarity with medical equipment including BIPAP machines and continuous cardiac monitoring systems.
• Strong critical thinking, communication, and interpersonal skills to effectively manage patient care and collaborate with the healthcare team.
