About the Role Aviation Electronics, Electrical, and Computer Systems Technicians (AV) are essential in ensuring the operational integrity of advanced aircraft systems. As a key player in this field, you will have the exciting responsibility of diagnosing and repairing complex electrical and electronic equipment that supports critical functions such as radar, communications, navigation, and weapons systems. In addition, you may have the chance to volunteer as a Naval Aircrewman, engaging in the operation of radar and weapons systems during flight missions. Key Responsibilities Troubleshoot and repair advanced aircraft systems, including digital computers, fiber optics, radar, infrared detection, and laser electronics. Maintain electrical power generation and distribution systems for aircraft. Test and calibrate instruments alongside automatic flight control systems. Implement upgrades and modifications to aircraft electronic systems. Utilize diagnostic equipment and read wiring diagrams and schematics effectively. Work Environment As an AV technician, you will work in various aviation environments worldwide. Your tasks may take place in hangars, aboard aircraft carriers, electronics labs, or even outdoors on the flight line. You will collaborate closely with other aviation experts and have significant autonomy in your responsibilities. Training & Advancement Complete Class 'A' Technical School (18-26 weeks) that covers aviation fundamentals, electrical systems, and hands‑on training. Post‑training, Sailors will be assigned to either the AE or AT rating and may serve at naval air stations, aviation squadrons, or aboard carriers. Access opportunities for specialized technical training related to specific aircraft and mission systems. Navy College Program and Tuition Assistance Earn college credits recognized by the American Council on Education Obtain industry‑recognized certifications through Navy COOL Participate in Department of Labor apprenticeships via USMAP Qualifications Must be a U.S. citizen and eligible for security clearance. Normal color perception is required. A strong passion for aviation and aircraft technology. Demonstrated aptitude in electronics, computing, and detailed technical tasks.
