Afternoon Diesel Mechanic

Chartier a 70-year-old family-owned business, specializing in excavation, hydro excavation, emergency spill response, material transportation and related services for both the private and public sector. Headquartered in Fair Haven, MI, with additional locations in Webberville and Harrison, M.L. Chartier is a premiere organization with a strong team-oriented culture. Position Summary The ideal the candidate will be an experienced, professional and independent worker. You will thrive in a high volume shop setting, as well as occasionally in mobile setting. You will be motivated by ensuring that preventative maintenance activities will decrease downtime and unexpected breakdowns. Shift is expected to be 10am to 6pm, with some flexibility to set an initial schedule. Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities Responsible to maintaining a large fleet of state-of-the-art trucks and equipment Must keep equipment and workshop space clean Operate and maintain equipment for class 8 trucks and other fleet vehicles Running diagnostic tests on diesel engines and interpret results Repair brakes, engines, and other associated parts with each truck Conduct field visits in case of emergency or sudden breakdown Maintain records of inventory and service done Complete oil change and brake checks Adhere to and enforce all safety standards Maintain organized and clean work area Participate in and promote the safety culture Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Must have experience working on class 8 trucks Experience with CAT off-road equipment is a plus Willing to work until the job is complete Demonstrated ability to work with tools Preferred experience in ESA, Insight, CAT, Bendix Follow instructions given both orally or in writing Ability to work independently, with accuracy and in accordance with company safety and quality standards Ability to communicate in English with other employees for the purpose of hazard recognition, problem solving, or other purposes Must have reliable transportation to and from work (Essential functions, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.
