RN MedSurg PCU

Job Summary:

The Registered Nurse (RN) for MedSurg/PCU is responsible for providing skilled nursing care in a 25-bed critical access hospital setting, with duties spanning MedSurg, PCU, and Telemetry areas. The RN will assess patient needs, administer treatments, manage safety protocols, and collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to ensure high-quality patient care. The role requires flexibility to work across departments and maintain accurate documentation while adhering to infection control and equipment safety standards. An active Washington state RN license and experience in MedSurg/PCU are essential, with a commitment to work through holiday seasons with minimal time off. Responsibilities:

  • Provide comprehensive nursing care in MedSurg, PCU, and Telemetry units.
  • Identify and address patient and family education needs using appropriate modalities.
  • Implement and document patient safety measures, including proper use of restraints and side rails.
  • Operate and troubleshoot essential medical equipment, ensuring safe usage and maintenance.
  • Follow infection control and isolation protocols consistently.
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and concise documentation of patient status, interventions, and responses.
  • Complete physician orders timely, including 24-hour order checks when applicable.
  • Provide thorough change-of-shift reports to incoming staff.
  • Communicate effectively with other departments and report critical lab values promptly.
  • Maintain and restock emergency carts, patient rooms, and general supplies.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills & Certifications:
  • Active Registered Nurse license in Washington state.
  • Minimum of 3 years nursing experience, preferably in MedSurg/PCU or similar settings.
  • Strong clinical assessment, medication administration, and treatment planning skills.
  • Knowledge of patient safety protocols and infection control procedures.
  • Excellent communication and interdisciplinary collaboration skills.
  • Ability to accurately document patient care and physician orders.
  • Competency in operating and troubleshooting medical equipment.
Preferred Skills & Certifications:
  • Experience working in a critical access hospital or similar healthcare environment.
  • Familiarity with Telemetry monitoring and PCU nursing care.
  • Additional certifications related to MedSurg or PCU nursing.
Special Considerations:
  • Willingness and ability to work through the holiday season with minimal requests for time off.
  • Flexibility to work across multiple departments as needed.
  • Adherence to strict patient safety and infection control policies.
Scheduling:
  • Night shift schedule in a 25-bed MedSurg/PCU unit.
  • Shift assignments may require flexibility to cover various departments.
  • Minimal time off during holiday periods is expected.
