Locomotive Operator/Switcher

Responsibilities

Maneuvering locomotives within the switching yard to assemble and disassemble trains

• Moving railcars to designated tracks as per schedule and instructions
• Operating track switches to route trains or individual railcars onto different tracks
• Ensuring that tracks are correctly aligned for the intended movement
• Connecting and disconnecting railcars using mechanical couplings
• Inspecting couplings and ensuring secure connections
• Conducting pre-operational inspections of locomotives and railcars to identify any mechanical issues
• Reporting and addressing any defects or maintenance needs
• Using radios and hand signals to convey information accurately and efficiently
• Adhering to all safety protocols and regulations to prevent accidents and injuries
• Wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
• Quickly addressing and resolving operational issues that arise during shifts
• Making informed decisions to ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the yard

Documenting all movements, switch positions, and any incidents that occur during operations

• Keeping logs of inspections and maintenance activities
• Ensuring compliance with environmental and safety regulations

Participating in ongoing training programs to stay updated on operational procedures and safety standards

• Assisting in the training of new personnel as needed
• Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience

• High School Diploma/G.E.D. Required
• Bachelor's Degree Preferred
• 1 years of experience in Locomotive Operation Required
• 2 years of experience in Locomotive Operation Preferred
• Must hold a valid state issued Driver's License
• FRA/AAR locomotive operator certification Preferred

Working and Environmental Conditions

This position works in a plant manufacturing/warehouse setting.

• The position is based out of Savannah, GA office at a plant manufacturing/warehousing environment.
• Communication with employees and field partners will be primarily conducted via phone and email.
