Special Education Teacher

Chester County School District – Lewisville Elementary School – Special Education Teacher Location: Richburg, South Carolina. Starting Date: Jul 27, 2026 Job Overview Teacher – Special Education; responsible for developing and implementing Individualized Education Programs (IEPs), providing academic, behavioral, and social support, and coordinating with parents and staff to meet student goals. Reports to the Executive Director of Exceptional Children and the Building Principal. Responsibilities Plan and deliver instruction that meets the needs, interests, and abilities of special education students. Develop lesson plans, adapt materials, and design activities aligned with IEP goals. Assess student progress regularly, provide progress reports, and maintain accurate records in accordance with state and federal guidelines. Collaborate with teachers, other professional staff, administrators, and parents to address instructional and classroom issues. Maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning, establish clear behavior expectations, and enforce classroom rules fairly. Supervise teaching assistants and volunteers, and arrange for substitute instructors as needed. Assist teachers in implementing curriculum and individual student plans. Assist in early recognition and prevention of educational problems. Operate office and classroom equipment (computer, printer, copier, etc.). Provide first aid and care to medically fragile children when required. Coordinate and participate in special programs, projects, or events; serve as adviser to student organizations. Attend staff meetings, committees, and in‑service training as required. Maintain inventory of classroom supplies and submit requisitions as needed. Conduct parent‑teacher conferences, parent education workshops, and home visits as necessary. Qualifications Valid South Carolina teaching certificate or eligibility in the appropriate certified area. Experience working with children in an educational setting (desirable). Bachelor’s degree in a related field (preferred). Ability to perform tasks involving moderate physical effort (standing, writing, lifting up to 20 lbs). Strong communication skills, both verbal and written; ability to work with diverse populations. Analytical and decision‑making skills; ability to apply principles of rational systems to solve practical problems. Proficiency in data collection, assessment, and record‑keeping; ability to use computer and assistive technology. Knowledge of state and federal special education regulations and district policies.
