Database Manager – Columbia University, New York, NY Location: New York, NY • Job Type: Officer of Administration • Regular/Temporary: Regular • Hours per Week: 35 • Salary Range: 86,600-124,100 The salary of the finalist selected for this role will be set based on a variety of factors, including but not limited to departmental budgets, qualifications, experience, education, licenses, specialty, and training. Position Summary The Database Manager will work directly with investigators and members of the Transplant Clinical Research Center (TCRC) to design, implement and maintain research databases related to solid organ transplantation and end-stage organ disease. The individual will also provide statistical consultation to investigators including study design, analysis of data, interpretation of results and preparation of reports. The individual will need to interface with individuals within the CUIMC and NYP Informational Technology groups and develop a good working knowledge of the existing IT infrastructures. Responsibilities Design, implement, and maintain research databases related to solid organ transplantation and end-stage organ disease, which includes: Collaborate with site staff and internal team members to design data collection tools and data entry workflow(s). Work with collaborators on multi-site research projects. Develop policies, procedures, and standards relating to database management. Maintain database backup processes. Monitor daily processes and respond to alerts. Perform database freezes, locks, and exports according to study needs and schedule. Perform data backups and recoveries. Maintain a log of database modifications. Monitor user access rights to study databases and data systems. Maintain database dictionaries. Monitor and respond to security alerts. Provide statistical consultation to investigators, which includes: Assist in the development of statistical analysis plans. Write statistical portion of manuscripts and address manuscript revisions based on reviewer's comments. Collaborate with investigators in grant development including statistical design. Prepare structured and well-annotated statistical analysis reports for clinical trials and other research projects, and for meetings with collaborators. Clean and organize data in preparation for analysis. Develop and prepare regular data quality reports. Prepare statistical analysis reports, including tables and figures, for meetings with investigators, and for presentations and publications. Keep current in statistical methods and computing skills. May supervise biostatistical consultants and/or data entry operators. Manage multiple ongoing projects. Adhere to project timelines and deadlines. Maintain professional and clear communication style. Other related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree or equivalent in education and 4 years of experience required. Working knowledge of STATA, SAS, SPSS or other major statistical package (S+, R, etc.) and Microsoft Office (ACCESS and EXCEL). Experience in database development and management. Experience in biostatistics consulting. Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in Statistics, Biostatistics, or Computer Science. Other Requirements Proven analytical skills and experience with analytical tools and statistical tools. In-depth understanding of database structure principles. Familiarity with database design, documentation and coding. Excellent knowledge of data backup, recovery, security, integrity. Experience gathering and analyzing system requirements. Hands‑on experience with database standards and end user applications. Excellent understanding of data administration and management functions (collection, analysis, distribution, etc.). Problem‑solving skills and ability to think algorithmically. Excellent analytical and organization skills. Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
