Responsibilities Provide routine security patrols of campus, both internal and external. Patrol assigned area on a constant basis to maintain safety, security, crowd control and order. Respond to domestic/patient/employee/visitor disturbances, process lost and found, and deescalate situations involving combative or aggressive personnel. Work jointly with NOPD to detain persons who commit domestic violence, auto burglary, theft, drug violations and other arrestable offenses. Perform special/covert operations to prevent car theft and car burglaries. Assist victims with restraining orders. Attend scenario-based annual training for Active Shooter, weapons qualification, CPI and other mandatory departmental requirements. Report and control unauthorized or suspicious persons, unsafe conditions or other irregularities: Identify, badge, and restrict access for identified offenders who visit the campus. Enforce parking, train traffic and semi-truck redirection. Respond to codes and other calls for assistance immediately unless involved in or responding to an emergency situation. Set out barricades for blocking spaces for maintenance, construction, VIP and other events. Deliver food trays, lab specimen, pharmacy drugs, mail, nourishment, etc. Assist staff and patients: Assist behavioral health, ED and care center staff with restraining aggressive and combative patients/personnel. Utilize a medical detector to search patients for weapons or contraband. Provide transport services for inclement weather shuttle, behavioral health patients, care center patients, rapid response medical team, staff, etc. Operate security screening equipment, access control systems, video security and intrusion detection systems, and maintain control of patient valuables given to security. Education & Experience High School Diploma, GED or equivalent AND 2 years of directly related security experience (required). Police Academy Graduate (preferred). 2 years of directly related security experience will be considered in lieu of education. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of local, state and federal laws, including organized training from a Law Enforcement Academy. Professionalism, ethics, laws and criminal codes, crisis intervention, universal precautions, firearms defensive tactics and handcuffing. Training in firearms, handcuffs and restraining; ability to supervise and instruct others on proper use. Physical ability to walk and stand for long periods of time. Ability to interact with individuals who may be criminal, violent, disruptive, combative, or disoriented. Licenses & Certifications Valid Louisiana Driver's License. Non-Violent Crisis Prevention – Crisis Prevention Institute (required within orientation period). Annual Firearm Training – LCMC Health (required). Annual Baton Training – LCMC Health (required). P.O.S.T. Certification – Louisiana Commission on Law Enforcement (required if officer has outside law enforcement powers). Defensive Driving Certification – defensive driving certification issuer (preferred). Certified Healthcare Protection Administrator – International Association for Healthcare Security & Safety (IAHSS) (preferred). Work Shift Nights (United States of America).
