Food Service Cook

This position is open for competitive hiring at the Hualapai Adult Detention Center. The salary is determined by experience. This is a full-time position with an opening date of April 30, 2026, and a closing date of open until filled.

The role involves directing the food service operation in an adult or juvenile facility, maintaining safety and security, and performing related duties as assigned.

Examples of work performed include promoting a diverse and respectful workplace, performing, training, and supervising food service cooks, planning and approving menus, purchasing food and supplies, coordinating commodity orders, maintaining inventory, ensuring adequate staffing, operating kitchen equipment, and ensuring health and safety standards are met.

Minimum qualifications require a high school diploma or equivalent and five or more years of experience in commercial or institutional cooking. Supervisory responsibility includes managing up to three cooks. The work environment involves standing or walking for long periods, repeated bending and stooping, and daily lifting of heavy items.

Knowledge of institutional food service operations, nutrition concepts, food handling and storage, hygiene and sanitation standards, and the ability to train and supervise staff are required. Additional skills include menu planning, calculating food quantities, evaluating commodity purchases, using kitchen tools, conducting temperature controls, canning and freezing food, and keeping accurate records.

Necessary requirements include a valid Arizona driver's license, passing a drug and alcohol screening, a favorable background investigation, and no felonies, pending cases, or domestic violence offenses.
