Job Title: CT Scan Technologist Profession: CT Scan Technologist Specialty: - Duration: 13 weeks Shift: 3 PM - 11:30 PM Hours per Shift: 8 Experience: Required - CAT SCAN License: NJ DEP Diagnostic Radiography License Certifications: ARRT Certified R.T.(R) license required, American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification Must-Have: - Knowledge of anatomy and physiology and radiological positioning of the human body. - Understanding mechanical attributes of CT software and hardware. - Thorough knowledge of PACS system. - Team members must achieve ARRT (CT) certification within the twelve months following their hire date. - American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within three months of hire date. Description: The CT Scan Technologist performs computer tomography procedures and related techniques, producing sectional and three-dimensional images for interpretation. The technologist assists with interventional and therapeutic procedures. The role includes performing complex CT procedures. Professional judgment must be used when reviewing and obtaining patients' clinical histories for procedures, ensuring information is documented and scanned. The technologist prepares, screens, and reviews the contrast questionnaire with the patient or family member, scanning it into the electronic health record system. Identifying and/or administering contrast media related to CT exams as prescribed by a licensed practitioner is necessary. The technologist reviews the patient prescription to verify the appropriateness of the exam. If the prescription is incorrect, the technologist will communicate with the Radiologist and Referring Physician to obtain additional clinical information or a new prescription. Responsibilities include calling physicians to clarify prescriptions in accordance with the appropriate CT protocols. The technologist is responsible for verifying the insurance authorized exam script and sending exam modification forms to Finance for insurance re-verification. It is also necessary to obtain outside studies, scheduling them in the electronic health record system so that radiologists have access to compare with the current studies. The technologist provides exam copies to the patient and the requesting physician or family member. Evaluating radiographs using the PACS system to ensure proper identification and diagnostic value is required. Consistent and appropriate techniques must be used to gather relevant information from the medical record, significant others, and health care providers. This preparation includes determining the needs for scanning and patient safety based on patients' conditions. The technologist is responsible for preparing patients for scanning, including shielding and immobilization devices. Determining the appropriate type and dose of contrast to be administered is part of the role. Accurate explanations and instructions must be provided to patients in understandable terms. Any patient questions and concerns regarding the procedure must be documented and addressed when appropriate. Performing venipuncture, IV patency, and maintenance procedures according to established guidelines is required. Monitoring the patient's physical condition for any adverse reactions during the procedure is essential. Responsibilities include adherence to scheduled shifts, including holidays and weekends. Adhering to policies regarding employee identification, behavior standards, attendance, and punctuality is critical. The role may require lifting a minimum of 25 lbs., pushing and pulling a minimum of 50 lbs., and standing for a minimum of 6 hours daily. Identifying the needs of the patient population served and delivering care specific to those needs is essential. This process includes effective communication with patients and caregivers at their level. The technologist must adhere to standards identified in Organizational Competencies and Standards of Behavior.
