Technical Writer

Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Technical Writer to support documentation efforts across utility operations, engineering, asset management, and compliance teams. This individual will partner closely with subject matter experts (SMEs), project managers, engineers, and operational leaders to develop, maintain, and enhance technical documentation that supports critical business processes, regulatory compliance, and operational excellence.

• Collaborate with engineering, application support and field operations teams to gather and validate information.

• Interview Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) and translate technical information into user-friendly documentation.

• Create and maintain workflow diagrams, process flows, organizational documentation, and visual aids using Visio or similar software.

• Ensure consistency in formatting, language, branding, and document standards across all documentation.

• Manage document revisions, version control, and approval workflows within document management systems.

• Review existing documentation and identify opportunities for process improvement and standardization.

• Support regulatory audits and compliance initiatives by maintaining accurate and current documentation.

• Participate in project meetings and provide documentation support throughout project lifecycles.

• Assist with change management and communication efforts related to new processes, systems, and procedures.

Skills and Requirements

• 3-5+ years of technical writing experience supporting engineering, utility, energy, construction, manufacturing, or industrial environments

• Experience creating and maintaining process documentation, SOPs, user guides, and technical manuals.

• Proficient within Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, and Excel

• Excellent writing, proofreading, editing, and organizational skills

• Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders • Experience with Visio or similar workflow/process mapping software

• Experience supporting ISO, OSHA, DOT, NERC, FERC, EPA, or other regulatory requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree
