A Mazak Laser Operator sets up, runs, and maintains Mazak 2D or 3D CNC laser cutting machines for precision sheet metal fabrication. These professionals handle raw materials, optimize cutting conditions, inspect parts, and perform maintenance on systems like the Optiplex Neo, often utilizing Mazatrol controls.

Key Responsibilities

• Machine Setup & Operation: Loading raw materials, setting up the machine, operating 2D/3D lasers, and unloading completed parts.
• Quality Inspection: Inspecting materials and finished parts for quality, using calipers and micrometers, and verifying nozzle alignment.
• Process Optimization: Adjusting cut conditions and parameters for speed, quality, and material type (steel, stainless, aluminum).
• Maintenance: Maintaining a clean workspace, cleaning lenses, removing slag from grates, and troubleshooting equipment.

Required Skills and Qualifications

Experience: 2+ years of prior laser machine operation experience is often required. Technical Skills: Ability to read blueprints and CAD drawings. Software/Controls: Familiarity with Mazak Mazatrol CNC controls. Physical Stamina: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced environment.

Typical Work Day

An operator usually starts by reviewing production orders, followed by prepping the machine (checking consumables like lenses and nozzles), running the laser, and ensuring efficient production flow while maintaining safety protocols.

Tips for Success

Keep the machine clean and follow maintenance routines for the lens and nozzle. Monitor machine performance closely and use the "Smooth Alex" control for faster troubleshooting. Utilize and understand the material library to manage gas pressure, focus, and speed.
