As a Clerk Typist III, you play a critical role in advancing this mission by providing highly skilled clerical and administrative support essential to the Agency’s child welfare and court‐related functions. This position supports casework and supervisory staff through accurate document preparation, court processing, data entry, and records management that directly impact legal proceedings and official child abuse records. We welcome detail‐oriented, dependable candidates who are comfortable working independently in a fast‐paced, time‐sensitive environment and who value public service. Training, guidance, and supervisory support are provided to ensure success in this vital role. One position will be filled through this announcement.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

 

The Clerk Typist III performs advanced clerical and court‐related administrative duties to support the operations of Somerset County’s Children and Youth Services Agency, including:

•      Preparing, typing, proofreading, and processing complex and time‐sensitive court documents, correspondence, and reports with a high level of accuracy

•      Completing court filings and documentation related to emergency placements, dependency proceedings, hearings, and reviews within required timeframes

•      Entering, updating, and maintaining case information and records in CPCMS, CAPS, and related systems, including opening cases and tracking placement and closure data

•      Generating and distributing required legal notices, summaries, permanency plans, and funding correspondence in compliance with statutory requirements

•      Maintaining accurate records that become part of official court and child abuse files at the local and state levels

•      Providing independent clerical and administrative support to Supervisors and casework staff with minimal supervision

•      Performing general office duties, including mail processing, reception coverage, equipment maintenance, meeting support, and interoffice document distribution

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

 

Candidates must meet ONE of the following:

 

•      Six months as a Clerk Typist 2, and educational development to the level of completion of high school; OR

•      One year of progressively complex clerical typing experience and completion of high school; OR

•      Six months of moderately complex clerical typing work and completion of a post high school business curriculum; OR

•      Any combination of equivalent experience and training

 

 

Other Requirements:

•      Valid Pennsylvania driver's license required

•      Must pass a background investigation

•      A conditional offer of employment will require successful drug screening

•      This position falls under the provisions of the Child Protective Services Law ( Under the Law, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports including, but not limited to, PA State Police clearance, PA Child Abuse history clearance, and FBI Fingerprint clearance. )

•      Must be able to perform essential job functions

•      Pennsylvania residency requirement is currently waived for this title
