Pharmacy Operations Manager

What Health System Pharmacy contributes to Cardinal Health Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient and effective coordination of Cardinal Health's pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices as well as retail customers. Health System Pharmacy is responsible for providing customized pharmacy program solutions that reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems and other integrated healthcare providers. It may also consult with and advise the healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies and related processes. Job Summary Cardinal Health manages the pharmacy at Mary Washington Hospital, a 471-bed regional medical center located in Fredericksburg, VA. The Pharmacy Operations Manager coordinates, directs, manages, facilitates, and oversees the execution and evaluation of all administrative and clinical activities. Through the optimization of procedures, this role ensures consistent and efficient delivery to control costs, minimize waste, optimize customer relationships, and deliver positive patient outcomes while maintaining compliance with Federal and state regulatory agencies. Along with maintaining inventory control and budget, this role is responsible for staffing, monitoring staff activities, performance and achievement of individual and departmental goals. Responsibilities Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all clinical activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including supervision of refilling machines, medical prescriptions database entries and dispatch of medicines. Plans, coordinates, directs and evaluates all administrative activities as delegated by the Director of Pharmacy, including scheduling of pharmacy technicians tasks, monitoring process compliance and monthly reporting. Implements process and procedures to comply with regulations for medicine handling including reception and storage of medicines, inventory and expenses controls. Manages day to day activities of the pharmacy technicians and monitors their performance to meet departmental goals. In the absence of medicines, communicates with nursing, doctors and administrative areas to provide alternatives and also makes and/or supervises preparation of interveinal drugs. Maintains pharmacist certifications and maintenance of database privileges and access controls to medical records. Provides pharmaceutical care to patients as a staff pharmacist. Assesses and maintains pharmacy inventory and executes necessary orders, including reviews, to maintain optimal supply and ongoing availability of drugs, identifying and procuring alternative drugs to mitigate risks, when necessary. Leads processes for hiring of pharmacy staff, onboarding, and performance management, including leadership of competency evaluations process and documentation. Manages internal workflows of acute pharmacy, including optimization of staffing and scheduling to maintain best-in‑class and streamlined pharmacy operations. Participates in meetings and provides insight to hospital committees to ensure coordination among cross‑functional groups. Assists in execution of plans for lowering costs, increasing efficiency and driving profitable growth to support strategic business objectives in the acute pharmacy business. Assumes responsibility for Quality Assurance monitoring and completing End of the Month reports as assigned by the Director of Pharmacy. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications Bachelors degree in pharmacy or PharmD. Must be a "good standing" licensed Pharmacist in the state of Virginia or able to obtain licensure. Inpatient/hospital experience required. Management experience strongly preferred. Board Certification(s) preferred. Completion of an ASHP‑accredited pharmacy residency and/or fellowship preferred. Ability to see, hear, write, and speak clearly in order to communicate with customers and health care professionals. Ability to work on call or be in an on call rotation. Anticipated salary range $124,900 - $196,350.
