Media Coordinator Reports To: School Principal with support and guidance from the Director of Digital Learning and Library Services Salary Grade: Instructional Support Work Location: Seawell Elementary School FLSA Status: Exempt Work Schedule: 10 Month Position Summary The demands of providing a 21st century education dictate new roles for School Library Media Coordinators. School Library Media Coordinators are called on to have a larger role in their schools and school communities. School leadership is distributed among the staff and administration in order to bring consensus, common understandings, and shared ownership of the vision and purpose of the school. School Library Media Coordinators are valued for their leadership abilities throughout the school as well as in the media center. School Library Media Coordinators help make content engaging and meaningful to students' lives as they support teachers and facilitate the integration of curriculum and related projects across disciplines. In the school and the media center, School Library Media Coordinators facilitate instruction, encouraging all students to use 21st century skills to discover how to learn, innovate, collaborate, and communicate their ideas. They serve as facilitators of information skills development through the provision of professional development, coaching, mentoring, and co‑teaching activities. Their work includes supporting the development of authentic and structured assessment strategies to assure that students demonstrate understanding of the content taught and ability to apply the skills they have learned. School Library Media Coordinators demonstrate the value of lifelong learning and instill a love of reading and learning in the students with whom they come into contact. Essential Duties Planning and implementing for teaching and learning Assesses learning and information needs of students and staff Plans and works collaboratively with teachers Instructs students and staff in the effective use of ideas and information Incorporates information literacy into day‑to‑day instruction Advocates and promotes reading and lifelong learning Leads the school's use of instructional technology to enhance learning Upgrades professional knowledge and skills on a continual basis Collaborates with the Digital Learning Coach to provide leadership in the school's instructional technology resources and plan digital citizenship and information literacy lessons to enhance learning Planning and implementing for information access, evaluation and use Works with the principal and school leadership team to provide flexible access to school library media center resources Creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning Encourages the widest possible use of print and electronic resources and services within the school library media center, throughout the school, and through remote access Leads teachers, technology staff, and students in a collaborative process to select and evaluate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals of students and teachers in the information age Keeps accurate inventories of print, non‑print, and technology materials and equipment Works cooperatively with other libraries and agencies to share resources that enhance teaching and learning Implements an ongoing collection development and evaluation process, in collaboration with the Media and Technology Advisory Committee or School Leadership Team, that focuses on a variety of formats and resources to meet diverse learning needs Adheres to copyright as well as other laws and guidelines pertaining to the distribution and use of resources Advocates the principles of intellectual freedom and ethical behavior Planning and implementing for program administration Works with school staff to design and implement short‑ and long‑range plans to ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collaboration, collection development, and program management Evaluates the school library media program on a continual basis according to accepted standards of quality Organizes school library media facilities and resources in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources Leads in the budgetary process of the school through the Media and Technology Advisory Committee to ensure equity of access to instructional materials Leads the Media and Technology Advisory Committee or participates on the School Leadership Team in effective decision making to promote the school library media program Interacts effectively with students, staff, administration, and the general public to promote and expand the school library media program Demonstrates professional integrity through ethical behavior Prepares and submits accurate reports as required Carries out assigned non‑instructional duties and adheres to established laws, policies, rules, and regulations Performs related duties as assigned by supervisor Maintains compliance with all company policies and procedures Education/Experience Requirements North Carolina K‑12 School Library Media Coordinator 076 certification Master's Degree in School Library Information Science Previous teaching experience preferred Experience in providing information literacy support services in an educational setting Experience in developing instructional materials for adult learners and presenting staff development both live and online Knowledge of contemporary instructional technology trends and issues Alternate qualifications acceptable as determined by the Board Physical Requirements Ability to safely and successfully perform essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA, and other federal, state and local standards Disclosure This document provides descriptive information about the above Chapel Hill‑Carrboro City School position.
