About the Role Our client, a distinguished commercial law firm with a strong national presence, is seeking an accomplished Remote Commercial Litigation Attorney to bolster its dispute resolution practice. This fully remote position allows a highly skilled litigator to operate from any location within South Africa, engaging in complex commercial disputes on behalf of a diverse clientele. The successful candidate will manage cases from inception through to resolution, conducting legal research, drafting pleadings, appearing in court (virtually where possible), and negotiating settlements. This is a unique opportunity for an experienced attorney to leverage their expertise in a flexible, remote-first environment, contributing to high-stakes litigation and client success. The role demands a sharp analytical mind and a tenacious approach to achieving favourable outcomes. Key Responsibilities Manage a caseload of commercial litigation matters from initiation to conclusion. Conduct thorough legal research and analysis to build strong cases. Draft pleadings, motions, applications, and other court documents. Represent clients in court, arbitrations, and mediations (physically or virtually as required). Negotiate settlements and advise clients on resolution strategies. Conduct discovery, including document review and witness examinations. Advise clients on risk assessment and litigation strategy. Liaise effectively with clients, opposing counsel, and court officials. Stay abreast of legal developments and case law relevant to commercial litigation. Requirements Admitted Attorney of the High Court of South Africa with a minimum of 7 years of post-admission experience specializing in commercial litigation. Demonstrated success in handling complex commercial disputes, including contractual disputes, shareholder disputes, and insolvency matters. Proven experience in drafting pleadings, managing discovery, and arguing in various courts. Strong understanding of civil procedure and evidence law in South Africa. Excellent analytical, research, and writing skills. Exceptional negotiation and advocacy abilities, suitable for a remote environment. Ability to work autonomously, manage time effectively, and meet strict deadlines in a remote setting. Proficiency with legal research databases and remote collaboration tools.
