LICENSED TEACHER

Ellendale School of Innovation and Inquiry General Statement of Job Under the general supervision of the school principal, plans, organizes and presents instruction and instructional environments that help students learn subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational and social development in accordance with each student’s ability. Required education Bachelor’s degree and licensed by the state of North Carolina in the required area(s), preferred. Degree in education or in a related area that will qualify for licensure as a teacher by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. Essential duties and responsibilities Develops and administers school curriculum consistent with school district goals and objectives. Promotes a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction, and student learning. Treats all students in a fair and equitable manner; interacts effectively with students, co-workers, parents, and community. Maintains and respects the confidentiality of student and school personnel information. Develops and uses lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to challenge students and best utilize the available time for instruction. Evaluates the academic and social growth of students and keeps appropriate records. Organizes and maintains a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a functional learning atmosphere in the classroom and promote effective participation in all activities. Communicates effectively with parents through a variety of means and encourages parental involvement in students’ education. Continues to acquire professional knowledge and learn of current developments in the educational field by attending seminars, workshops or professional meetings. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in assessing and helping students solve health and learning problems. Supervises students in activities that take place out of the classroom during the school day, including activities involving school transportation. Administers standardized tests in accordance with state and district testing requirements Selects and requisitions instructional materials. Additional duties Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the superintendent. Essential knowledge and abilities Must be adaptable to performing under stress when confronted with emergency situations that interrupt normal daily schedules. Requires the ability to compare and/or judge the readily observable, functional, structural, or composite characteristics of data, people, or things. Requires the ability to read and prepare a variety of correspondence including reports, handbooks, forms, lists, instructional materials, etc. Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes giving instructions, assignments, or directions to subordinates or assistants. Also includes receiving instructions, assignments and/or directions from superiors. Requires the ability to apply principles of logical or scientific thinking to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions; to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagrammatic form; and to deal with several abstract and concrete variables. Requires the ability to record and deliver information, explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in a variety of technical or professional languages including medical, legal, and counseling terminology. Must be physically able to operate a variety of equipment including computers, copiers, calculators, pencils, scissors, etc. Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally; and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to lift, care, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
