Certified Peer Counselor

Position Summary Outpatient Certified Peer Counselor (CPC) is responsible for providing support, education and resource services to clients at Sea Mar’s outpatient Behavioral Health sites and in the community. Responsibilities Provide case management services to assigned consumers, including collaboration or direct assistance in obtaining housing, income, employment, medical and mental health treatment, and meaningful social and recreational activities in the community (minimum 50% of work). Assist recovering persons in identifying personal interests and goals related to recovery and community integration. Educate clinical staff and others about the recovery process and the role of stigma in undermining recovery. Assist patients in recognizing and using their strengths and assets to achieve goals. Maintain knowledge of community resources and assist consumers in accessing services. Ensure appropriate documentation of services. Assist case management for Substance Abuse and Mental Health programs, including obtaining and maintaining records. Participate in clinical consults with Program Manager or assigned Therapist, and seek additional consultations as needed. Attend and participate in meetings as directed. Help create a positive mental health environment and teamwork climate. Provide on-site services to acute-care consumers, including groups, one-on-one support, and coordination with clinic services. Perform other duties or special projects as assigned. Collaboration Collaborate with primary Clinician to facilitate client access to community resources, support, and entitlements, based on comprehensive assessment and treatment plan. Assist primary Clinician with development of outcome‑based treatment plans, crisis plans, discharge plans, benefit management, documentation, outcome maximization, and backup support to team members. Organizational Responsibilities Keep supervisor informed of potential problems in a timely manner. Maintain professional standards and meet agency goals. Follow Sea Mar safety, security, and building procedures. Present a professional image to consumers, the public, and staff at all times. Maintain strict confidentiality and handle consumer information in accordance with policies. Participate in staff and program meetings, including supervision and training sessions. Maintain records, reports, and forms in accordance with Sea Mar procedures and contract requirements. Qualifications Must be a consumer of service within Washington State’s mental health system. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups or employees of the organization. One year paid or volunteer experience working with Mental Health and graduation from the Washington Institute Peer Advocacy Training Program or an equivalent program. Must be a Certified Peer Counselor in the State of Washington. Must have and maintain a current TB test and CPR certification (or obtain CPR within 90 days of hire). Must complete an annual clinical competency test as a Peer Counselor. Annual influenza vaccine required (exemption policy applies). Work Environment Noise level is usually moderate. The employee frequently uses hands, reach, or speaks, walks, stands, sits, and occasionally climbs or kneels. The employee must lift up to 10 pounds frequently and up to 50 pounds occasionally. Vision requirements include close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision.
