Director of Finance

A premier luxury mountain resort is seeking an accomplished Director of Finance to oversee the financial operations of a complex hospitality environment encompassing a resort lodge, private club, and homeowner association.

This is a highly specialized opportunity requiring a finance executive with direct experience managing the unique financial requirements of hotel/resort operations, HOA environments, lodge operations, and private clubs .

The Director of Finance will provide strategic financial leadership across multiple entities and revenue streams while partnering closely with the General Manager, ownership, HOA leadership, private club leadership, and department heads.

The ideal candidate is a sophisticated hospitality finance professional who understands the intersection of luxury resort operations, residential communities, club membership, HOA governance, and real estate-related financial management.

Key Responsibilities

• Direct all financial operations for the resort, lodge, HOA, and private club entities.
• Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team and strategic business partner to the General Manager and ownership.
• Establish and maintain strong financial controls, policies, procedures, and reporting systems.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reporting.
• Ensure financial statements accurately reflect the performance of each operating entity.
• Provide meaningful financial analysis and recommendations to senior leadership and ownership.

HOA & Residential Community Finance

• Oversee financial management for the homeowner association, including operating funds, reserve funds, assessments, and capital planning.
• Partner with HOA leadership and the Board of Directors on budgets, financial reporting, assessments, and long-term planning.
• Ensure appropriate accounting and controls for HOA-related transactions and expenditures.
• Monitor owner assessments, collections, reserves, vendor contracts, and community operating expenses.
• Prepare clear and timely financial information for HOA Board meetings.
• Ensure compliance with applicable governing documents, regulations, and financial requirements.
• Provide financial oversight of private club operations, including membership dues, initiation fees, F&B, recreation, events, and other member-related revenue.
• Monitor club P&L performance, departmental profitability, labor costs, purchasing, and inventory.
• Partner with Club leadership to develop annual operating and capital budgets.
• Analyze membership trends, revenue performance, and operating expenses.
• Maintain appropriate controls around member accounts, receivables, and club transactions.

Resort & Lodge Operations

• Oversee financial performance of the hotel/resort and lodge operations.
• Partner with Rooms, F&B, Spa, Recreation, Sales, and other department leaders to drive profitability.
• Monitor key hospitality metrics including occupancy, ADR, RevPAR, flow-through, labor productivity, and F&B performance.
• Provide financial guidance regarding seasonal business cycles and mountain resort operations.
• Ensure proper accounting for lodging, F&B, events, recreation, retail, spa, and other resort revenue streams.

Budgeting & Forecasting

• Lead the annual budgeting process across the resort, lodge, HOA, and private club.
• Develop detailed operating budgets, capital budgets, forecasts, and long-range financial plans.
• Monitor actual performance against budget and forecast.
• Identify trends, variances, risks, and opportunities.
• Develop corrective action plans where appropriate.
• Support strategic capital planning and reserve funding requirements.

Accounting & Internal Controls

• Oversee accounting functions including AP, AR, general ledger, payroll, cash management, reconciliations, and financial reporting.
• Ensure accurate month-end and year-end closing processes.
• Manage external audits, tax filings, insurance requirements, and other financial compliance matters.
• Maintain appropriate segregation of duties and financial controls.
• Ensure timely and accurate reporting to ownership, boards, and senior leadership.

Capital & Asset Management

• Partner with Engineering, Operations, HOA leadership, and ownership on capital projects.
• Develop and monitor capital expenditure budgets.
• Assist with reserve studies and long-term capital planning.
• Analyze return on investment for major capital initiatives.
• Monitor project costs and ensure expenditures remain within approved budgets.

Leadership & Team Development

• Lead, mentor, and develop the Finance and Accounting team.
• Establish clear performance expectations and accountability.
• Build a culture of accuracy, integrity, service, and continuous improvement.
• Collaborate closely with department heads to improve financial literacy throughout the organization.
• Provide operational leaders with the tools and information necessary to make sound business decisions.

Qualifications

Required

• 8+ years of progressive hospitality finance/accounting experience , with significant leadership responsibility.
• Previous Director of Finance, Hotel Controller, Corporate Controller, or comparable senior finance experience.
• Direct experience with all or a combination of:
• Luxury hotel/resort
• Mountain resort or lodge
• Homeowners Association (HOA)
• Private club
• Strong understanding of multi-entity accounting and financial reporting.
• Proven experience with HOA budgets, assessments, reserves, and Board reporting.
• Private club finance and membership accounting experience strongly required.
• Strong hospitality P&L and operational finance experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in budgeting, forecasting, financial analysis, and capital planning.
• Strong knowledge of internal controls, audits, cash management, AP/AR, payroll, and general accounting.
• Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication skills and ability to present complex financial information clearly to ownership and Boards.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Hospitality Management, or related field preferred.

Preferred Qualifications

• Luxury mountain resort experience.
• Experience with a residential resort community or destination club.
• Experience supporting HOA Boards and/or private club Boards.
• Experience with significant capital projects and reserve planning.
• CPA, CMA, or comparable professional designation preferred.
• Experience with luxury hospitality organizations operating multiple legal entities.
• Familiarity with hotel, club, HOA, and property-management accounting systems.
• Forbes Five-Star, AAA Five Diamond, or comparable luxury hospitality experience.
