Insurance Claims Counsel – In-House Opportunity

Position Overview

\n

\n

ProspectBlue is partnering with a recognized leader in the specialty insurance industry to hire an Insurance Claims Counsel for its in-office claims team in Richmond, Virginia .

\n

\n

This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney with experience in insurance coverage, claims, and/or complex litigation to join an in-house team. The Claims Counsel will evaluate complex claims, analyze coverage and exposure, work with outside counsel, and help drive matters toward resolution.

\n

\n

Experience with professional liability , including legal or medical malpractice, employment practices liability, directors’ and officers’ liability, errors and omissions, commercial liability, or bodily injury claims is highly relevant. E&S insurance experience is preferred but not required. Strong litigators interested in transitioning into the insurance industry are also encouraged to apply, with training provided.

This is a 100% in-office position in Richmond, Virginia with no remote or hybrid schedule.

Key Responsibilities:

\n

    \n
  • Evaluate and manage complex claims from investigation through resolution.
  • \n
  • Analyze policies, coverage issues, applicable law, liability, damages, and exposure.
  • \n
  • Develop coverage positions, claim recommendations, and resolution strategies.
  • \n
  • Manage and collaborate with outside counsel, experts, and other claims professionals.
  • \n
  • Participate in litigation, mediations, settlement negotiations, and other dispute-resolution proceedings.
  • \n
  • Communicate effectively with insureds, brokers, attorneys, and internal stakeholders.
  • \n
  • Partner with senior claims leadership on complex matters and claims-handling best practices.
  • \n
  • Stay current on relevant insurance laws, regulations, and case law.
  • \n

Qualifications:

\n

\n
    \n
  • J.D. from an accredited law school.
  • \n
  • Active law license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction and in good standing.
  • \n
  • 2+ years of experience in insurance coverage, claims, litigation, or a related legal practice preferred.
  • \n
  • Experience with insurance coverage, professional liability, complex claims, or litigation strongly preferred.
  • \n
  • Strong analytical, legal writing, negotiation, and communication skills.
  • \n
  • Ability to assess risk and make well-supported recommendations.
  • \n
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • \n
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office.
  • \n
  • Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative, in-office environment .
