Medical Assistant - Oncology

The Medical Assistant assists in the delivery of patient care as defined by Stony Brook Southampton Hospital nursing philosophy. Under the guidance of the physician, nurse practitioner, physician assistant, RN, or LPN, the Medical Assistant performs nursing functions in accordance with site-specific policies, procedures and establishes ethics of nursing care. Places patients in exam rooms, takes vital signs, makes notes in the medical chart of the patient, assists the physician, NP or PA as directed. Checks medical equipment daily, performs appropriate lab logs and maintains inventories. Administers EKGs, eye tests and other in-house testing at the physician request and direction.

Required Experience and Qualifications: High School Diploma or equivalent. Phlebotomy experience. Current BLS provider certification from the American Heart Association. Certification as a Medical Assistant/Graduate of a Medical Assistant Program.

Preferred Experience and Qualifications: Associate degree. Experience in outpatient, private physician practice or clinical setting. Bilingual preferred.

Anticipated Pay Range: The starting salary range (or hiring range) for this position has been established based on relevant experience. The above salary range (or hiring range) represents SBSH's good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting.
