Open up opportunities with HPE.Job Description:The HPE Quantum team at HPE Labs is developing new approaches for quantum computing, including integration with high performance computing. As a Senior Research Engineer with a focus on Quantum Error Correction (QEC), you will be at the forefront of efforts to bring quantum computing from research to practical reality. You will conduct cutting-edge research in QEC, develop and extend quantum circuit compilation and simulation tools, influence HPC-QC architectural decisions, and publish your findings. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of engineers, researchers, and product managers to build usable, efficient, and innovative systems that combine quantum computing and high-performance computing.Key Responsibilities:Evaluate and develop improvements to quantum error correction strategies, algorithms, and software to enable practical execution of applications on quantum hardwareDevelop software components to handle QEC details in quantum circuit compilation, emulation/simulation, and resource estimationDevelop or integrate real-time decoder technologies into HPE's HPC-QC software stackContribute to HPC-QC architecture decisions with detailed knowledge of quantum error correction strategiesCreate and demonstrate novel quantum error correction components and describe these in publications and presentationsExtend open-source software and improve quantum circuit compilation and simulation capabilitiesDemonstrate workflow strategies for applications that combine high performance and quantum computing, and participate in standardization of key interfacesRequirements:PhD degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Physics, or Mathematics preferred with a strong preference for quantum computing, computational science, or ML/AI expertise or10 or more years of programming experience1 or more years of experience implementing software for quantum error correction (resource estimation, real-time decoding, circuit compilation)Advanced programming skills in low-level languages such as C, C++, or Rust, and advanced programming skills in PythonDeep understanding of Quantum Error Correction codes including circuit compilation and decoding aspects, and deep understanding of Quantum Computing with skills in understanding and optimizing circuitsExperience creating or extending quantum computing tools (e.g., Qiskit, CUDA-Q, TensorFlow Quantum, Pennylane)Experience contributing to large software projects, creating new software efforts, and designing library APIsStrong mathematical background with excellent skills in areas such as statistics, probability, and linear algebraKnowledge and Skills:Excellent communication skills, capable of conveying complex ideas clearly and engaging with both technical and non-technical audiences in written form and in presentationsStrong leadership, consensus-building, and stakeholder engagement skills with an outcome-focused mindset and a bias for action and deliveryCreative and analytical thinking abilities with a passion for solving complex problems and a focus on quality and customer resultsKnowledge of applications of quantum computing, including quantum chemistry, quantum simulation, combinatorial optimization, or statistical physicsExperience with HPC environments, cloud computing platforms, GPU computing, or FPGA computingFamiliarity with AI/ML frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch) and solid understanding of machine learning algorithms and generative AIStrong track record of sharing findings with the broader scientific community, such as publishing research papers in top-tier journals and conferencesWhat We Can Offer You:Health & WellbeingWe strive to provide our team members and their loved ones with a comprehensive suite of benefits that supports their physical, financial and emotional wellbeing.Personal & Professional DevelopmentWe also invest in your career because the better you are, the better we all are.
