DescriptionPosition at JBS USABeef Modernization SupervisorResponsibilities:Drive food safety across the harvest floorEnsures that Beef Modernization functions are running efficiently while maintaining a safe workplace and food safety on the Harvest floorLead, supervise, and manage Beef Modernization personnel, ensuring continuing professional development, training, and overall employee well-being at all processing facilitiesProvide strong leadership and management skills in a high paced environmentProvide subject matter expertise for plant related programs and activities as they pertain to food safety/microbiology, regulations, and quality systemsProvide technical oversight and guidance for quality related functions at the identified facility.Understand basic bovine anatomy, physiology and pathologyDetermine the appropriate actions to take to ensure removal and disposal of unwholesome and unfit carcasses, parts, or viscera to ensure they cannot be used as human foodExcellent understanding of when a carcass or part(s) display certain conditions/disease processes or have systemic involvement requiring USDA-FSIS Public Health Veterinarian dispositionOversee continuous training/correlations with Beef Modernization personnel. Periodically measure and quantify understanding and comprehension of trainingProvide strategic leadership, guidance, and risk management for local food safety and quality programs and systems to include, but not limited to, HACCP, Preventative Controls, USDA Process Verified Program and customer or 3rd party audit-drive requirements and policies.Strong understanding of plant HACCP, pre-requisite quality programs, and all quality/food safety related programs to meet regulatory and/or customer requirementsProvide technical support to Plant Management and onsite plant functionsInvolved in tracking microbiological trends, sanitation program performance, and communicate results to plant team members and corporate quality assurance.Comprehensive knowledge of statistical process controls. Ability to drive continuous improvement with Quality ProgramsSupport Continuous Improvement with standardized work, science based problem solving and utilizing real time tools to predict quality attributesCreate and write quality control programs to be implemented plant and company widePrepare, implement and monitor standard operating procedures for each production area involving Beef Modernization personnel in the plantOther duties as assignedQualifications:B.S. in Animal Science, Meat Science, Food Science or related science discipline preferredCollege experience beneficial to develop writing skills and animal science knowledgeMinimum 5-7 years of experience in the USDA or quality control areaHACCP certification preferredKnowledge, background and expertise in Meat processing operations is critical.Areas of knowledge must include HACCP, specification adherence to incoming raw materials, brine mixing procedures, trimming, chilling, styling & packaging specs, packaging modified atmosphere characteristics, final box/package configuration and shelf-lifeSupervisory skills; good interpersonal relations; able to handle conflict.Good verbal and written communication skills.Team player with leadership skillsExperience in leading groups of QA employees, including setting team and individual objectives, managing individual and team performance and building a team approach to problem solvingOutstanding communication skills in order to lead, engage and motivate individuals and/or teams.Strong proficiency with personal computer software with knowledge of word processing, spreadsheet and multiple applications required.Detail oriented and strong analytical skillsHighly organizedBeing multilingual desired but not requiredEOE, INCLUDING DISABILITY/VETS About JBS JBS began in 1953 as a small, family-owned company in Brazil. In 2010, the facility joined the JBS USA family.Plainwell is the only JBS plant with Modified Atmospheric Packaging (MAP), a packaging process that changes oxygen levels to extend shelf-life. The MAP process is a part of the Plainwell ground beef operation. Plainwell is also one of the few plants that produces ground beef patties. Over one million lbs (450,000 kg) of beef are produced each day. The Plainwell facility produces biogas in an anaerobic lagoon and uses it in place of natural gas to heat a portion of the water used in the plant. The facility was recognized by the American Meat Institute as a Tier 3 facility for its accomplishments with ISO 14001.
