JOB TITLE: Automation Engineer

LOCATION: Middleton, WI - Fully onsite
START DATE: October/November 2026
SHIFT: Monday-Friday, First Shift; approximately once-monthly on-call rotation, potentially including weekends

We are seeking an Automation Engineer to support, improve, and troubleshoot industrial control systems across a complex manufacturing operation. This position will focus heavily on Rockwell PLC and HMI technologies while supporting equipment reliability, system improvements, and automation projects.

Responsibilities

• Develop, modify, and troubleshoot PLC applications using Rockwell control platforms.
• Build, maintain, and update HMI applications supporting automated equipment and processes.
• Diagnose control-system issues and implement solutions that minimize equipment downtime.
• Maintain accurate programming records, revision history, and documentation for system changes.
• Support validation, testing, and implementation of automation modifications and upgrades.
• Partner with Engineering, Maintenance, Production, and Quality teams to resolve control-system issues and improve equipment performance.
• Participate in automation modernization, equipment upgrades, and capital improvement projects.
• Support root-cause investigations and corrective actions involving automated systems.

Qualifications

• Associate's degree in Automation, Electronics, Instrumentation, Computer Science, Engineering Technology, or a related technical field.
• Approximately 3+ years of hands-on PLC programming experience; strong candidates with roughly 2 years of directly relevant post-degree experience may also be considered.
• Hands-on experience with Rockwell Automation PLC platforms, including ControlLogix and/or CompactLogix.
• Experience programming PLCs using Studio 5000, RSLogix 5000, or comparable Rockwell development tools.
• Practical HMI development and troubleshooting experience, preferably within the FactoryTalk environment.
• Ability to work fully onsite and participate in a periodic on-call rotation.
