Description:
The OB/GYN works to ensure that patients are receiving the best medical, psychosocial and spiritual care possible, while upholding the Georgia Wellness mission within the scope of care that has been determined by the Board of Directors.
Responsibilities:
Patient Care & Clinical Responsibilities
- Ensure that the patient feels welcome upon her arrival for the physical examination.
- Provision of general full-spectrum obstetrical care.
- Provision of gynecology and well-woman care, including pap smears and breast exams, and physical examinations within the acceptable standards of care.
- Perform approximately 10 deliveries per month in coordination with the midwife and on-call group.
- Obtain credentialing for delivery at Northside Gwinnett Hospital and Piedmont Eastside Hospital.
- Provide health and wellness education to the patient and family and implements a therapeutic care plan.
- Test for sexually transmitted diseases and infections (STD/STI) and STD/STI education
- Order labs per standing order or according to his/her discretion, consistent with the scope of practice established by the Board of Directors, and according to the standard of care for prenatal care and screening for sexually transmitted diseases.
- Reinforces the humanity of the unborn child with the patient as appropriate.
- Make referrals for follow up care to approved providers, when appropriate.
Note: “approved” means those providers who are on the referral list. This requires that providers uphold the Georgia Wellness mission, have been screened by the CEO, Medical Director and Nurse Manager, and do not present a conflict of interest in self-referrals.
Patient Assessment & Documentation
- Review and/or completed history, assesses vital signs, documents information on specific forms and completes necessary patient forms.
- Responsible for the appropriate documentation in the patient record and for the preparation of a complete medical record for each patient contact per existing office policies.
- Complete necessary documentation on appropriate forms.
Clinical Oversight, Quality & Compliance
- Serve as the supervising physician for other clinical providers by establishing, maintaining, and submitting required nurse protocol agreements in accordance with applicable regulations.
- Participate in chart review, special committees and other quality assurance mechanisms, including Quality Improvement projects according to AAAHC standards.
- Perform periodic medical record audits for peer review.
- Participate in special projects, including but not limited to AAAHC accreditation, upon request.
- Participate in a yearly review between the NP and Medical Director/Supervising Physician.
- Ensure that infection control guidelines are followed.
Other:
- Participate in staff executive team, medical team, and in-service meetings
- Collaborate with the midwife and on-call group to support continuity and coordination of patient care.
- Abide by professional standards of care, following the original Hippocratic Oath, including no referrals for abortions.
- Maintain an active professional license and show proof of licensure as required.
- Stay current with developments in health care relevant to their practice at Georgia Wellness.
Skills and Qualifications:
- MD in OB/GYN
- Experience of 5+ years in obstetrics and gynecology office practice and able to work independently to care for patients.
- Comply with state and professional continuing education requirements.
- Annual review of HIPAA/OSHA, center policies and procedures, and infection control regulations.
- Current License and board certification
- Current Driver's License

- Meets personal attendance and punctuality requirements, including but not limited to, organizing workload throughout the day to meet schedules and deadlines, meets time use policies, minimizes time spent on personal calls, personal email, and personal matters, accurately reports time and attendance.
- Exhibits strong interpersonal, critical thinking, and clinical skills.
- Willingness to function as a member of the pregnancy medical clinic team when needed.
