Duties

Knowledge in both linear and non-linear analysis (e.g., static, dynamic/seismic design and analysis, numerical methods, thermal stresses induced by the environment and the heat of hydration of cement, nonlinear material behavior)

Knowledge of concepts, principles, and theories related to the design and analysis of complex structure using a variety of materials such as buildings, dams, spillways, navigation locks, culverts, and other determinate or indeterminate systems.

Prepare and develop plans and specifications for all types of structures derived from in-house design that satisfy the project site specific design requirements.

Participate in meetings with the District to discuss issues, provide technical guidance, identify potential problems, and propose procedures for resolution and advise on controversial and/or conflicting matters to assure successful project designs.

Maintain a working knowledge of all current and applicable organizational policy, technical standards, and quality management system.

Technical review of design calculations, plans, specifications, and cost estimates prepared by others in the district, consultants, and contractors.

Perform field investigations, observations, and recommendations for the purpose of evaluating field conditions for applicable use in the development of designs.

Perform field inspection of completed structures for the purpose of analyzing causes and effects of structural deficiencies and their relation to operational difficulties.

Prepare reports with recommendations for correction and repair of such deficiencies. Performs periodic inspections and prepares inspection reports for submission to higher authority.

Perform engineering support during construction including shop drawing review, site observation including written reports, response to Requests for Information (RFI's) and coordinate meetings for both District and AE design projects.

Represent the organization in internal and external meetings and conferences as a team member in structure design and actively participate to evaluate complex projects and recommend practical solutions.

Communicate effectively, both orally and in writing, and have experience in preparation and presentation of technical material to an array of audiences.

Coordinate structure project work with other engineering disciplines. (E.g., Geotechnical, Structural, Civil Design, Mechanical, Electrical, Cost, etc.)
