Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant leads and performs complex accounting operations supporting real estate development and project-based programs. Oversees cash and investment activity, monitors financial performance, and delivers detailed financial analysis to support decision-making. Coordinates cross-functional accounting processes, supports audits and budgeting, and ensures accurate financial reporting and regulatory compliance.

Key Responsibilities

• Perform and oversee complex accounting for development programs, including grants, contracts, debt, loans, and bond-related activity
• Prepare and analyze financial statements, journal entries, and annual closing entries; maintain general ledger and subsidiary accounts
• Manage cash and investment activity, including monitoring transactions, analyzing discrepancies, and preparing reporting for leadership
• Monitor financial performance of assigned programs, identifying trends, variances, and areas for corrective action
• Lead or support audits by preparing documentation, responding to inquiries, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards
• Conduct detailed financial analyses and present findings to support operational and strategic decisions
• Support budget development through data analysis, forecasting, and response to budget inquiries
• Process and reconcile tax reporting, including 1099s and related compliance documentation
• Partner with internal departments and leadership to coordinate financial activity and provide accounting guidance
• Maintain accounting systems and reporting tools, supporting upgrades, conversions, and process improvements

Education & Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting or business administration (Accounting concentration required)
• 5–7+ years of progressive public-sector accounting experience, including at least 2 years in a lead or supervisory capacity
