About the Position

Job Title: Speech and Language Pathologist Profession: Speech and Language Pathologist Specialty: Staff Augmentation Duration: 13 weeks Shift: Day Hours per Shift: 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM Experience: Minimum Years of Experience Required License: Required Certifications: Required Description: Conducts assessments and evaluations of individuals to determine their level of receptive and expressive speech and language skills, swallowing skills, and social/pragmatic skills. Develops, modifies, and implements individual and group therapy/treatment programs to enhance communication, address swallowing deficiencies, and prevent asphyxiation. Recommends changes in the texture of foods and consistency of liquids served during meals and snacks. Confers with medical staff regarding medications to improve swallowing. Participates in and suggests participation in barium swallowing studies and follow-ups based on results from assessments and evaluations. Designs and personally delivers speech, language, and dysphagia management services, which may include hearing screenings for individuals and groups. Provides training and support for individuals using hearing aids, beginning reading, word recognition, survival signs, articulation training, and social communication skills needed during outings. Demonstrates language techniques and the use of augmentative communication devices. Designs and delivers in-service training to other staff on speech-language techniques and protocols for individual and group therapies. Acts as a sign language interpreter as necessary. Participates as a member of an interdisciplinary team to provide professional insight and goal planning for treatment and care. Attends meetings, workshops, and seminars to improve professional skills and knowledge. Counsels and informs guardians and family members regarding speech-language, hearing, or swallowing issues. Composes and completes reports, lesson plans, and other program-related documents necessary to implement, modify, and track progress of treatment and therapy programs. Operates a personal computer using office systems software or specialized communication software to create, edit, and store records and reports. Develops augmentative communication devices, including signs, photos, picture boards, communication wallets, and sign language books. Maintains electronic augmentative communication devices and hearing aids.
