JOB DESCRIPTION

Title: General Labor - Recycling

Department: Metals Recycling

Location: Sewell NJ

Reports to: Operations Manager

Job Summary: Work with a team of employees in one or more departments to ensure the safety, housekeeping, quality and productivity meets all company standards. Ensure material is received, graded, processed, stocked and shipped in an efficient manner meeting company quality standards. Ensure a clean, organized and safe workspace is maintained.

Position Responsibilities:

Safety

· Ensure work area is free from hazards and safety concerns.

· Complete regular observations to identify and correct any safety issues

· Only operate equipment after being certified through training, in a safe and responsible manner

· Have a 360-degree awareness of work space

· Understand and use prescribed personnel protective equipment

· Employee will be properly trained for respirator use and will ensure all respirators are maintained according to manufacturer/company policies. Follow procedures in respiratory program.

· Ensure customers do not enter regulated areas without proper authorization

· Report any safety concerns to Operations Manager or President

Employee Leadership

· Contribute to developing and maintaining a positive work environment by engaging and working well with others

· Assist in building and completing goals in order to improve performance and facilitate personal growth.

· Take appropriate corrective action where required to improve cost and efficiency.

· Follow company policies, procedures and suggest improvements.

· Ensure employees have proper supplies to work with, including uniforms, tools, equipment and PPE.

· Follow through on commitments made to management and fellow employees in a timely manner and with a sense of urgency.

· Participate in employee training and retraining.

Job Responsibilities

· Work with a team in metal recycling operations.

· Wear a respirator and other PPE while in regulated areas.

· Assist with loading/unloading of trucks.

· Keep an orderly and safe working environment.

· Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained.

· Ensure material is received, weighed, inspected and graded in an efficient and accurate manner.

· Ensure material is properly packaged for shipment and meets all quality standards

· Ensure all shipments are prepared and meet consumer requirements

· Continuously consider all “Loss Control” aspects of receiving, weighing, grading, sorting and stocking material

· Help keep inventory storage area in an organized and efficient manner with labels visible for inspection.

· Ensure tools and equipment are kept clean and properly stored.

· Assist other employees when required.

Environmental

· Ensure all tasks are completed in an environmentally responsible manner and in compliance with all regulatory, legislative guidelines and company policies and procedures

Continuous Improvement

· To constantly challenge the current methods and techniques in a controlled manner that will provide for a superior, more efficient and improved result...or...

· Continually develop strategies and tactics that optimize operational efficiencies

• To support the initiatives of all employees in their ability to improve on a regular basis.

Skills/Knowledge/Experience required to perform the job:

· High School Graduate or equivalent

· Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.

· Previous experience in labor or industrial settings preferred

· Ability to communicate and work well with others

· Basic computer skills with MS Word and Excel

· Prior forklift experience preferred but not required.

· Ability to wear a respirator and other PPE

Working Conditions while performing the job:

· Position is performed indoors with considerable time spent in hot or cold working conditions.
