REGISTERED NURSE - SURGERY

Position DescriptionUnder the supervision of Department Director and Chief Nursing Officer, provides and supervises direct and indirect patient care to adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients. Communicates with physicians, as appropriate, about changes in patient’s condition including results of diagnostic studies. Is able to respond quickly and accurately to changes in condition or response to treatment. Additionally, is able to perform general nursing duties with minimal supervision.Essential Position ResponsibilitiesThe essential position responsibilities are the basis for the 90 day and annual evaluation. This list is intended to describe the general nature and level of work to be performed and not intended to be an exhaustive list of all duties required of personnel.Demonstrates support for the hospital mission/vision and commitment to our patients.Continually seeks ways to improve patient care as well as individual and department efficiency and effectiveness.Presents an accommodating and receptive manner to our residents and his/her customers demonstrating a willingness to do whatever is necessary to meet their needs.Is dependable in meeting assigned work schedule and completing responsibilities of role.Adherers to organizational policies and procedures.Seeks job related education, attends required training and 80% of appropriate programs.Utilizes the nursing process and physician’s orders to assess, plan, implement and evaluate nursing Standards and/or established policy and procedure.Demonstrates knowledge and initiation in the admission and discharge planning processes.Adheres to legal implications of patient care.Maintains patient confidentiality.Administers medication/treatments in accordance with organizational policies and procedures.Follows infection control practices including proper hand washing technique, standard precautions, isolation precautions and proper use of required PPE personal protective equipment.Performs independently, within department’s policies and procedures, referring universal problems to RN Manager.Accountable for following scheduled policies and adheres to posted work schedule.Arrives to work on time, dressed appropriately.Wears Identification Badge while on duty.Keeps Department Director informed.Minimal QualificationsEducation: Graduation from an accredited school of nursingCurrent unencumbered license from Georgia Board of NursingCurrent BCLS certificationObtain ACLS certification within 1 year of hire and maintain current certification (If working in Emergency Department, Medical Surgical Unit, Specialty Care Unit or Surgery)Obtain PALS certification within 1 year of hire and maintain current certification (if working in Emergency Department)Experience: Experience preferred, but not necessary, may obtain on the job.Ability to proficiently perform all essential job responsibilitiesPhysical/Mental DemandsAbility to think and work effectively under stress with frequent interruptions; to move, sit, stand, walk, and bend intermittently throughout the work day.
