Job Description: CT Technologist Requirements Education: -Degree/Education: Graduate from an academic program accredited by the Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT), Council on Occupational Education (COE), or other equivalent organization. Experience: -One year of experience within the last two years as a CT Tech. Certifications -Certified by the ARRT in Computed Tomography. -BLS Additional Requirements: -Provide two (2) letters of recommendation written within the last two (2) years attesting to the HCW's clinical skills. One letter must be from a practicing radiologist or supervisory technologist who has personally observed and evaluated the HCW and who can attest to the HCW's clinical skills in the care of patients. The other letter may be from a clinic or hospital administrator, physician, nurse, or peer technologist who has personal knowledge of the HCW's patient care skills in a similar clinical environment. Reference letters shall attest to the HCW's communication skills and ability to relate to patients as well as professional and other interpersonal skills among staff members and must include name, title, phone number, date of reference, address and signature of the individual providing reference. Job Duties General Contracted Personnel Duties: Contracted personnel shall perform a full range of duties consistent with their labor category, education, training, experience, clinical privileges (as applicable), and assigned position. General duties that apply to all personnel or across certain labor categories are given below. A. Maintain a level of productivity comparable with that of other individuals performing similar services.
B. Participate in peer review and performance improvement activities. C. Practice aseptic techniques as necessary. Comply with infection control guidelines to include the proper handling, storage, and disposal of infectious wastes, and the use of universal precautions to prevent the spread of infection.
D. Function with an awareness and application of safety procedures. E. Perform efficiently in emergency patient situations following established protocols, remaining calm, informing appropriate persons, and documenting events. Anticipate potential problems/emergencies and make appropriate interventions. Notify supervisor, director, or other designated person regarding problems that the contracted personnel is unable to manage. F. Apply an awareness of legal issues in all aspects of patient care and strive to manage situations in a reduced risk manner. G. Participate in the implementation of the Family Advocacy Program as directed. Participation shall include, but not be limited to, appropriate medical examination, documentation, and reporting. H. Exercise awareness and sensitivity to patient/significant others' rights, as identified within the MTF. I. Maintain an awareness of responsibility and accountability for own professional practice. J. Participate in continuing education to meet own professional growth. K. Attend and/or comply with all annual training classes required by the MTF, to include but not limited to online annual training provided by the MTF: disaster training, infection control, Sexual Harassment, Blood-borne Pathogens, Fire and Safety, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE), MHS Genesis, and all other required training. L. Actively participate in the MTF's Performance Improvement Program. Participate in meetings to review and evaluate the care provided to patients, identify opportunities to improve the care delivered, and recommend corrective action when problems exist. M. Participate in the provision of in-service training to clinic staff members. Provide training and/or clinical direction as applicable to supporting government employees (e.g., hospital corpsmen, students, etc.). N. Attend and participate in various meetings as directed. O. Perform timely, accurate, and concise documentation of patient care (to include all tasks and documentation related to patient encounter in accordance with DHA and MTF policies). P. Operate and manipulate automated systems such as ADS, Essentris, MHS Genesis, and Clinical Information System (CIS), participate in clinical staff Performance Improvement (PI) and Risk Management (RM) functions, as prescribed by the MTF Director. Maintain DOD email account as directed. The contracted personnel shall be responsive to all email and voicemail communications. Q. Exercise appropriate clinical delegation of tasks and duties in the clinical direction and coordination of health care team members, patient care, and clinic activities. R. Maintain documentation of all treatment provided in accordance with clinic directives and prepare such records and reports as may be required. All records and reports must be legible. Abbreviations must be only those listed in local instructions. Legal Authorization to Work in the United States: The contract worker performing under this contract must be a U.S. Citizen. Labor Category: Computed Tomography (CT) Technologist REQUIREMENTS: 5.2.1.2.8. Specific Duties: The HCW shall provide services within the scope of their competencies, the applicable duties provided in the basic contract, and the following: a. Ability to perform exams on all CT scanners, fixed or portable. b. Verify and identify patient and procedure information in accordance with command policy. c. Log arrival and departure of patients in the command's hospital information system (MHS Genesis) and in the scanner logbooks. d. Continuously monitor pending orders on all shifts for inpatient requests, Emergency Department and/or STAT Urgent or ASAP orders. e. Review all images, send appropriate image series, and check PACs for each exam to ensure ALL images transmit from scanner to the radiologist for reading according to department protocol. Before deletion of exam, ensure all images have been transmitted as appropriate. f. Perform computerized axial tomography scans of the head, body and extremities as well as more complex which include dedicated phasic organ studies, coronary CTA (Computed Tomography Angiography), perfusion, vascular CTA, multiplanar and 3D volume renderings, and portable CTs for critical patients. g. Evaluate patients for contrast compatibility: renal function, GFR (Globular Filtration Rate), allergy history, contrasts contraindications. (To include pregnancy tests when indicated) h. Ensure patients are properly prepped with required contrast agents (oral, IV, rectal), NPO (Nil Per Os - nothing per mouth) status, and appropriate IV access per established CT protocols. i. Assist scheduling clerks by answering questions to ensure that the patients are given proper instructions when scheduling appointments. j. Receive and position patients in the CT scanner to ensure correct visualization in the scanner's field of view. k. Explain procedure to patient and appropriate care and communication to alleviate patient's anxiety of examination. l. Evaluate critical and emergency procedures and determine patient priorities. Work with the Emergency Department staff, Radiologists, and inpatient staff to accommodate, triage and prioritize exams. m. Perform CT scans: Head Neck Chest Cardiac Abdomen Pelvis Upper extremity Lower extremity Perfusion Vascular CTA Multiplanar reconstructions 3D volume renderings Portable CT Procedures: to include but not limited to drainages, biopsies, marker placement, Trauma scans Above scans on pediatric patients Code Stroke exams in accordance with hospital policy n. Provide direct assistance and scans for invasive procedures including but not limited to drainages, biopsies, radiofrequency ablations, and cryoablations. o. Recognize significance of all structures and acute pathology. Bring critical findings to the attention of the radiologist prior to discharging the patient. p. Recognize and report to the radiologist any symptoms which have a direct impact on the patient's condition while in CT such as adverse reaction to contrast media or IV infiltration. Recognize the need for and initiate emergency measures for critical situations such as respiratory or cardiac arrest. q. Perform system warmups, calibrations and quality control tasks according to manufacturer and command instructions. Recognize artifacts and equipment errors and notify designated Government personnel of outlying values. r. Initiate repair call procedures for equipment malfunctions by notifying designated Government personnel. Report problems to the Biomedical Repair Section and record the problem condition in the trouble call logbook. Report problems to Department Qualified Medical Physicists.
s. Perform daily ACR quality control protocol scans and document. t. Maintain CT suite including stocking supplies, cleaning, taking out linen and sharps containers to Biohazard room as needed. Participate in the radiology department's rotation for pick up and drop off of both. u. Perform daily checks of the crash cart, and monthly checks of emergency contrast reaction kits. v. Perform and document transitions of care and other shift change huddles/meetings at the beginning and end of shift in accordance with MTF and Joint Commission requirements. w. Maintain documentation of continuing experience and training for CT technologists in accordance with American College of Radiology requirements.
