Position Summary:

The Inpatient Hospice and Palliative Medicine Physician is assigned to the organization's inpatient hospice service and is supervised by the Medical Director. The physician provides direct patient care for hospice and palliative patients in the inpatient setting and covers night and weekend calls for hospice and palliative patients as assigned through the physician call rotation.

The physician supports and coordinates care with the Interdisciplinary Group (IDG), including participation in care-planning meetings as the Medical Director's designee. The role also includes necessary administrative functions such as certifications, recertifications, prior authorizations, medical forms, and death certificates.

The physician participates in education, outreach, and leadership activities as needed and may be assigned additional patient-care or administrative responsibilities at the discretion of the Medical Director.

Position Qualifications

• M.D. or D.O. required.

• Licensure, or eligibility for licensure, to practice medicine in Kentucky, including DEA and controlled-substance permits, required.

• Fellowship in Hospice and Palliative Medicine required.

• Hospice, palliative care, primary care, hospitalist, or geriatric experience preferred.

• Board certification in Hospice and Palliative Medicine, or board eligibility with an expectation of certification within five years of employment, required.

Compensation & Position Highlights

• Base Salary: Approximately $225,000-$240,000 for physicians new out of training, with compensation increasing based on experience and reaching $300,000+ for experienced physicians.

• Incentive Compensation: Incentive plans based on productivity and quality, generally representing approximately 10-15% of base salary.

• Weekend Call Compensation: Additional compensation is provided for weekend call shifts.

• Sign-On Bonus: Typically $5,000-$10,000, depending on individual circumstances and organizational needs.

• Relocation Assistance: Relocation assistance is generally available for physicians.

• Hybrid Work Model: A portion of the work may be performed remotely, with in-person patient visits required.
