Medical technologists are responsible for operating and maintaining the equipment used to analyze specimens and ensuring that automated and manual tests are completed in an accurate and timely manner.Roles and Responsibilities:Analyze and test specimens, including proficiency testing and manual procedures, and report appropriately according to protocolOperate, maintain and troubleshoot complex equipmentUtilize complex information systems; collect and interpret dataPerform and interpret quality controlMaintain a compliant environment, including adherence to all lab and hospital procedures, NYS, TJC, HIPAA standards, infection control and safety guidelinesParticipate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities and maintain inter-and intra-departmental work flow by cooperating with othersMaintain adequate inventory and conserve resourcesRequired Skills and Experience:Education: Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology (or equivalent) and Registered as a Medical Technologist/Clinical Lab Scientist by American Society of Clinical Pathology (ASCP) or equivalent.Licensure: Meets NYS Department of Health requirements and is currently licensed as a Clinical Lab ScientistExperience: Prior laboratory experience is preferred.Preferred Skills and Experience:Problem solving ability and attention to detail is preferred Good written and oral communication skills preferred. Requires ability to prioritize work, manage time wisely and adjust to changes in work volumes. Physical Requirements:May require light lifting and carrying, including boxes, equipment, stooping and kneeling, maybe required to lift up to 30 pounds.
