Judicial Assistant Trainee

Job Overview The Judicial Assistant Trainee performs basic courtroom duties while learning courtroom policies, practices, and procedures. The role supports the efficient and professional operation of the court by assisting in the management of logistical functioning and flow of courtroom activities, setting calendars and scheduling hearings, maintaining official court records, and acting as liaison between judicial officers, legal counsel, court staff, and the public. Responsibilities Assist in the management of logistical functioning and flow of courtroom activities. Set calendars and schedule hearings according to legal and procedural time limits under judicial officer direction. Maintain the official record of the court. Act as liaison with judicial officers, legal counsel, court staff, interested parties, and the public to answer procedural questions and resolve problems. Perform related courtroom support functions assigned by the supervisor. Support multiple court types including traffic, small claims, criminal arraignment, misdemeanor courts, and less complex civil trials. Qualifications High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Three (3) years of progressively responsible court‑related services duties, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Completion of training in areas specified by the Court is highly desirable. Valid California Class C driver’s license and ability to maintain insurability under the Court’s vehicle insurance policy.
