Position Summary:

The Water Fitness Instructor facilitates engaging and safe water fitness classes, creating a positive environment that supports member wellness and fosters community engagement. Instructors ensure classes meet the needs of diverse participants, promoting the YMCA's mission and values.

General Work Schedule:

Morning and evening positions are available. Up to 25 hours per week.

Essential Functions:

1. Class Facilitation:

• Lead energizing, educational, and safe water fitness classes that align with program goals and objectives.

2. Member Engagement:

• Create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere where individuals feel respected and valued.
• Build relationships with members and program participants to support their health and wellness goals.

3. Health and Safety:

• Understand and accommodate diverse health needs, adjusting instruction to support participants' physical conditions, capabilities, and cultural backgrounds.
• Follow YMCA policies and procedures and respond promptly to emergency situations.

4. Program Development:

• Stay informed on wellness trends and incorporate effective strategies to enhance class experiences.
• Identify and celebrate member successes to encourage ongoing participation and achievement.

5. Facility and Equipment Maintenance:

• Ensure the cleanliness and organization of program areas by following department protocols to clean and disinfect commonly used surfaces.

6. Administrative Duties:

• Maintain accurate attendance records for all classes.

7. Professional Development:

• Maintain working knowledge of wellness trends to provide effective guidance and support to members.
• Obtain and maintain specialized certifications required for certain classes, such as SilverSneakers Splash or Aqua Zumba.

8. Additional Responsibilities:

• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

1. Certifications:

• Current CPR/AED/First Aid certification (American Red Cross, HSI, or American Heart Association accepted).
• Specialized certifications (e.g., SilverSneakers Splash, Aqua Zumba) required for specific classes.
• YMCA or American Red Cross Lifeguard certification is preferred.

2. Experience:

• Proven experience leading group water fitness classes.

3. Interpersonal Skills:

• Ability to develop positive, authentic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
