May act as a liaison in the absence of the Landscape Manager between various departments and their contractor to coordinate the maintenance of all landscaping projects within The District areas of The Villages. In the absence of the Landscape Manager position may also act as a consultant for any landscape issues as needed, including tree related issues. Ensures that District owned landscape properties are maintained to the highest quality horticultural standards possible, and that all contract landscape specifications are being followed, met or exceeded.Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Includes, but not limited to)Assists Landscape Manager with contract area field inspections.Assists Landscape Manager with contract enforcement in the field.Assists Landscape Manager in all day-to-day operations and scheduling for staff and contractor scheduling.Focus on operations in the field to ensure highest quality horticulture standards are being met.Assists with increased water management needs and field inspections with DPM Supervisors.Assists Landscape Manager implementing continuous department goals and planning.Assists Landscape Manager with field design and landscape renovations.Assists Landscape Manager with inspections and turnover procedures on properties being acquired from developer.Assists Landscape Manager in the preparing of budgets for landscape replacement and/or renovations as well as monitoring landscape contracts for addendums and amendments.Assists Landscape Manager with upcoming budgeted and CIP project needs and planning.Interprets and ensures compliance of the Districts policies and safety procedures specifically MOT when working on or near public workways.Review and management for renovation or additions to facilities.Managing projects through completion to ensure project goals meet established design intent, schedule and budgets, via regular communication with assigned DPM Landscape Supervisors, contractors and associated Departments.Inspection of landscape areas to determine the need for routine repairs and to provide direction to contractors on best management practices.Preparation of budgets for landscape projects, operational replacement needs and routine renovations.SupervisionDPM Landscape Supervisor(s)AdditionalPerforms other duties as assigned.May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.Essential Expectations of Performance and Behavior (Includes, but not limited to)Cultivates and maintains effective working relations within the department, the District, as well as outside of the organization.Models behavior to the District Core Values at all times.Well organized and able to successfully multi-task, and work under pressure in a fast-paced environment to meet multiple demanding deadlines.Minimum Education and ExperienceAssociate's Degree or equivalent; or more than 10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.Minimum Certificates, Licenses, RegistrationsValid Florida Driver's License required.Must currently possess or obtain ISA Arborist Certification within 12 months of employment.Required FEMA (ICS) certifications must be completed within six months of hire.All candidates and employees must successfully pass background screening.Minimum Knowledge, Skills and AbilitiesKnowledgeMust be able to demonstrate a working knowledge of landscape installation methods and techniques.Candidate must possess comprehensive knowledge of the practices and techniques of landscape construction, agronomy, and/or landscape maintenance; of plant life as applied to ornamental horticulture; of plant materials, planting techniques, erosion control, and pesticides; working knowledge of landscape design and construction work.SkillsProficient personal computer skills and knowledge of Microsoft package involving Word, Excel, Access, Outlook and Power Point.AbilitiesThorough knowledge of and skill in the operation and proper care of assigned hand and power tools and equipment.The ability to plan and program assigned projects and to organize and lead the work of assigned grounds personnel.Ability to successfully read and comprehend materials such as memos, correspondence and written orders as needed to ensure work activities are accomplished according to policy and procedure and exchange or acquire information.Ability to successfully communicate thoughts and ideas in a logical, cohesive and comprehensible manner.Ability to successfully interact with others to include courtesy, tact and diplomacy as needed to provide/gather information, assign and follow up on work duties, and establish effective relationships.Proven ability to provide excellent customer service to our residents.Excellent written and verbal communication skills and professional appearance.EquipmentPosition regularly requires the use of office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, and productivity software, copier, printers, scanners, and fax machines.Work Environment and Physical RequirementsWork EnvironmentThe work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job.
