Job Summary The Education Specialist – Mild/Moderate Support Needs instructs students with Individualized Education Plans in an inclusive environment. This role works directly within a school site and collaborates regularly with Special Education staff, outside consultants, and district personnel as needed. Essential Functions Administer academic assessments, write assessment reports, and present at IEP meetings. Consult and communicate with faculty and parents regarding student needs and progress via meetings, phone, and email. Maintain knowledge of current special education regulations. Collaborate with faculty to ensure student modifications and accommodations are implemented appropriately in the general education classroom. Assist with master schedule development to plan for all student IEP needs. Meet the minimum IDEA case‑management requirements. Input weekly IEP service tracking and meet all IEP timelines. Maintain a high level of rigor for students with disabilities to ensure equitable access to Common Core standards. Develop progress monitoring tools for student goals shared with the IEP team. Regularly collaborate with team members and related service providers to review data, ensure IEP and behavior plan implementation, and co‑plan/co‑teach. Provide daily oversight of paraprofessional support, including scheduling and IEP implementation. Demonstrate effective organization skills to maintain notifications, records, files, and reports as required by federal, state, and SELPA regulations. Implement health and mobility supports (toileting, G‑tube feeding, medication administration under nurse supervision) and assist with physical needs (lifting, mobility, campus access). Oversee, teach, and implement student behavior intervention plans, gathering and analyzing data regularly, and collaborating with staff on plan and progress. Regularly co‑teach/co‑plan with General Education teachers. Coordinate development and implementation of an individual’s Transition Program. Additional Responsibilities Demonstrate knowledge of and support Aspire Public Schools’ mission, vision, and value statements, including antiracism, policies, procedures, operating instructions, confidentiality standards, and the code of ethical behavior. Possess deep knowledge of special education principles, concepts, methodologies, and documentation requirements. Be proficient in special education assessment, planning, instruction, and evaluation. Understand child cognitive development and varied learning styles. Willing and able to implement students’ IEPs. Believe in inclusion and uphold Aspire’s Equity Belief Statements, setting high expectations for students with diverse learning needs. Reflect and improve continuously. Meet mandated deadlines and due dates. Adapt to changing conditions with good judgment; take initiative to modify activities. Exhibit strong written and verbal communication skills and collaborate with all stakeholders. Excel as a team member and implement new learnings from professional development. Work effectively with an ethnically and economically diverse student body. Perform other related duties as required and assigned. Qualifications California Special Education Teaching Credential (Mild/Moderate Education Specialist, Mild‑Moderate Support Needs) required. Bridge authorizations for Mild‑Moderate credentials received prior to June 2022. Bachelor’s Degree required; Master’s Degree preferred. Expertise in applicable grade‑level Common Core State Standards and academic IEP goal development. Knowledge of co‑teaching models and serving students with disabilities in an inclusive setting. Ability to learn quickly and thrive in a fast‑paced, dynamic, entrepreneurial environment, working autonomously yet responding to direction. Alignment with Aspire’s mission, vision, and values. Minimum educational level: Bachelor’s Degree in a related field. Preferred experience: 2+ years working with students with special needs. Physical Requirements Move in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments, including tight and confined spaces. Remain stationary; often standing or sitting for prolonged periods. Move about to accomplish tasks or transition between work sites. Assess accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of assigned work. Communicate with others to exchange information. Repeat motions that include wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Other Requirements Clear the Department of Justice background screening. Authorized to work in the United States. Provide health (TB) clearance, renewed every four years. Compensation Aspire Public Schools offers a competitive base salary benchmarked against local districts and charter schools, plus exceptional benefits: paid time off, 100% core health benefits on select plans, life insurance/long‑term disability, participation in a CA state retirement plan, tuition reimbursement, and adoption assistance. The salary schedule for this role, based on years of experience, ranges from $72,113 to $129,129 and will be updated for the 2026‑2027 year.
